If he'd have announced he was leaving mid way through the second half of the season though that would have surely been far worse for you, considering how much your players are supposed to have liked him. Look at the effect Redknapp had in the second half of the season where we just missed out on 3rd place under him. And if there were players who didn't like him in your squad, suddenly they can misbehave far more without so much to worry about, like Sandro last year under Sherwood.

Yep, all I am trying to say is. He made out he was going to stay on until a offer came in. There is one thing putting on a face to the fans, but it is different to lie to the board as well.

How do we know what he said to the board?
Koeman announced that he would be leaving Feyenoord in February and took over at Southampton pretty quickly after Pochettino had departed.
How likely is it that Southampton were blindsided by the Argentinian leaving?

Seeming as all interviews done even after the season ended the board were saying we want to sign Poch on a longer deal but he still has a year left. I would say pretty likely they thought he would stay at least one more season.

Berba threw a massive strop and was left out of our starting line ups before the transfer window ended, with reports suggesting he was refusing to play.

Modric over two summers requested moves away. The first Summer he wanted to join Chelsea - our 2nd most hated club after Arsenal - which Levy ended up rejecting a 3rd bid of £40m from them, only to then refuse to play the following summer claiming "his head wasn't right" when Madrid came calling, to which we sold him for £33m.

Bale done similar to Modric the year after, doing training sessions on his own and pretty much refusing to play.

I think when a player or manager says "we'll leave contract talks until the end of the season", it's just a clear indication that they're hoping for a bigger/ better offer elsewhere and if that doesn't materialise, then they're "delighted to stay and always wanted to commit".

For me it was him keep saying 'why do we need to discuss this I still have another year on my contract don't I?'' Implying to the board he was staying and even discussing preseason and transfers. He was linked with spurs from January I don't think it's a coincidence he ended up there.

Beefy is being a little kind IMO.

Pochetino when asked if he was in discussions over a new contract at Saints kept replying It is not a problem, I have a year left on my contract.

So he was implying that he would be here this season, complete the contract and then bugger off.

TBH I was one of those that didn't like him even with the hype of the 60% possession in the centre third. We did well but he only used players outside of his favourite 11 in the cups or if his hand was forced by substitutes or injuries and that in the end meant we had long spells where we were dead on our feet especially with the double training sessions.

I like Koeman. I didn't think I would but he plays a similar way to Adkins. It's more attacking whereas Pochettinos possession play is in the end pretty defensive minded. He also seems to enjoy things and care more about the whole picture rather than just want to lap up the praise and take all the plaudits for himself.

The offer of an improved contract had sat unsigned on Mauricio Pochettino's desk for two months and Southampton were left waiting to discover whether he would stay. Headlines reporting Tottenham Hotspur's desire to approach him were across the national newspapers but Pochettino had been categorical. He did not want to join Tottenham. He just needed time to decide whether to stay at Southampton after the departure of chairman Nicola Cortese in January. By the meeting of May 26, he was finally ready. He wanted to leave. Pochettino was asked again about Tottenham. He reiterated that he was not intending to join Tottenham.

Southampton's reaction was that they would move on but the issue of compensation needed addressing. If he was not quitting for another job, Pochettino's contract made him personally liable for £2 million, rather than his future employers.

Pochettino left to digest that information and, shortly after, as if by magic, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy telephoned to make his first approach to Southampton. By the end of some heated negotiations over the compensation that was also due for Pochettino's backroom team, Tottenham had their man and Southampton had a cheque for about £2.5 million.

As if by magic.........

The Fairy Godson indeed.

Levy, everything that's wrong in football.

Pinocchio wasn't going anywhere unless he knew categorically Levy was going to stump up. Levy was waiting for Van Gaal who wasn't interested.

So that's it! It's all Levy's fault, all the money spoiling football, all the corruption in FIFA, the buying of trophys by City, they buying of everything by Abramovich, the bankruptcys of football clubs, the tipy tapy boring football, SKY, the Eufa cup, the sham that is the Champions League, Arsenal, Stoke City, Steve Bruce, Joey Barton, Quatar, and not forgetting the FA (what appropriate initials they have) F A it is all the fault of Daniel Levy.

Well F M!
