I've occasionally wondered about this and done nothing about it, but I've got a lot of time on my hands this week (don't ask) so I thought I'd seek wisdom from the forum.

It's about the adverts you see when you look in as a guest without logging in, and the question is: do we all see the same ones, or are the cookies so smart that they can distinguish/isolate our interests and preferences by cross-referencing from our activity in other fields ?

As you've probably guessed by now, what I really want to know is whether I'm the only guest member who gets the "Mature Love with Ripe Russian Women" screen (if so, I'd obviously regard it as a compliment). Other, but less interesting, regular pop-ups are:

Is your pension pot big enough ?
Easy ways to lose tummy-fat
Five things you should never eat
Cheap way to whiten your teeth that your dentist won't tell you

And if any of you have actually hooked up with a Ripe Russian Woman, please post a full review.

If you use things like Google often enough, you will get the same adverts over and over on other websites because they use information not just from what searches you do but also from the sites that you visit. When you click the links on their results pages they are all embedded redirection links that record hits so they can re-order the results for subsequent users according to popularity.

If you are really lucky your Ripe Russian Woman will have pearly white teeth, a flat stomach with a six pack and a huge pension; but she will need some time on her own to film Wonga adverts!

There are no adverts on the internet if you get an ad blocker, could never go back to seeing that garbage again.

I got this far
You must log in or register to see images

then

Obviously no idea who I am.

Before I log-in I get 'meet-a-German-dollybird' advert on the right-hand side of the webpage! Gotta laugh really! Good lookers, but younger than my daughter! <laugh>

Robbie, I am successful in blocking pop-ups, but how do I get an 'ad blocker'? I'll try anything to, as you say, chuck-out this garbage.

I use adblock plus on firefox and that blocks just about anything.

HOWEVER - when I want to view a race video via Sporting Life, and have to log in to my skybet account, the adblock plus removes the login button. Very weird.

Amazing how quickly google gets onto your search preferences and feeds them into ad companies.

Have been using Firefox for a week or so, and have just installed adblock plus. Many thanks, Oddy.

Thanks, boys. And there was I thinking that my reputation had gone from Omsk to Tomsk and beyond....

QM: I'm sure you're right about Google and other engines being the link-provider in all this (but then why don't I ever get adverts for betting systems and racing magazines ?).

Stick: I knew that, but I try not to judge.

The racing magazines probably do not pay Google for advertising, thinking that they would be better spending their limited funds advertising at racecourses, in racecards or in the Racing Post where they can be ensured high visibility to their target market.

Click on the abp icon top right corner and you can disable it for that site only if you want to.

Yep got that robbie. Just find it weird that abp should block a login button. Maybe something to do with the javascript associated with the button?
