We all know that the standard of play in UEFA tournaments has gone up significantly since the Poool were last in the CL.
If Liverpool lose tonight, they have two back to back games v Real Madrid next. They could be virtually out of it by the time they play Basle again!
"If Liverpool lose tonight, they have two back to back games v Real Madrid next. They could be virtually out of it by the time they play Basle again!" Oh yeah, that does happen (just remembered Spurs vs Inter in 2010-11) . But there is hope : Bale played in both those games too.
Let's face it, the managers of today are not as good as the managers of old who brought a lot of success to certain clubs and managers of that ilk no longer exist to replicate those successes again. Liverpool losing 1-0 isn't a disastrous score line but I cannot see BR pulling this off.
Deluded Mousers on the BBC Football live feed complaining that they are not competing with Basle and are, in fact, looking very average. They really did think that, last season, they could have got where they did without Goofy! How can any Mouser genuinely believe that, this season without Goofy, they would be anything other than complete ****e? I will never understand the Mouser delusion.
Yes, I did. I've said, from the very start, that Balotteli will prove to be just as big a clown as he looks.
Super star Sterling has gone backwards skill and effective wise but his diving has improved You have to wonder if Pool actually practise the dive
Balotelli hasn't surprised me. Of course, in an ideal world, Welbeck keeps Giroud out while being less effective.
I enjoyed watching the much maligned Welbeck tonight. He looked world class! His performance was outstanding- pace, power and (for once) exceptional, cool finishing. If Wenger can get that out of him, then he's got a bargain. Good luck to him. He's quiet and unassuming and has always done what's been asked of him, but he's never been given a decent run at centre forward and never shown the confidence he did tonight. I remember him scoring two and linking up well with Rooney in a 4-4 v Everton in 2012, but he's never looked as good as tonight. Spurs were linked to him; you should have signed him.
I wanted us to get Wellbeck. Then again, I'd take just about any striker in the Prem over the three clowns we're lumbered with.
Let's see how Ade, Soldado, Kane and Welbeck do over the year. This will sound like a cop out because it is, but we also don't know that Welbeck would have been successful here, even if he is successful at Arsenal.
I think we're also overlooking the reports that we were interested, and tried to sign Welbeck. He reportedly preferred to join The Goons.
It was a good win by Arsenal last night and one I wouldn't mind more often instead of our pathetic one and two goals. 4-1? I dream of it.
