I tend to agree with the united fan for once. The media have been waiting and waiting for last season (and this) and now they are loving it. If anything the 'love in' has been for Liverpool for the past 30 years. As for the dismissal of Saints as contenders for anything but 'best outside of the top 7'. That is a statement typical of the 'big clubs'. We shall see next week how far off 'the top 7 clubs we are. Quite literally funny for a Spurs fan to use a match against Forest as evidence of Poch's plan B working. You've got plenty more doubters now than you had at the beginning of the season and that is saying something. His Plan A is awesome as long as the other team's counter plan proves unviable. Plus it was around the December/January period that we went through that 'bad run', when the fixtures come thick and fast and his 'favourites' are unavailable through injury / niggles / suspensions and he has to dig into his 'unfavoured' opt of players. My opinion is that it is at your place which counts in your favour and I think it will be 1-1 or a Saints win by the odd goal
Banned for asking " how important is giggs to the team?" I get banning offensive questions....but boring ones?
I think you misunderstand, what Pochettino is accused of is only being able to set up his team to play one way and his subs having little impact. The last 2 games are examples that show that's not necessarily the case. Believe what you want but no one has claimed that the game against Forest was some managerial masterclass, or that we shouldn't have expected to beat Forest, all that's said is that at 1-0 down against a side that was sitting back in numbers we did well to come back and win comfortably.
Villa along with us are eyeing one Albin Ikdal who's a goal scoring midfielder at Cagliari, I say go for him. Also Jay Rodrigues is on the radar again and I say no to that.
Wondering if this is from the Super-injunction time and the apparently innocuous question had a sub text? Still shouldn't have got away with it, the FA should make any decisions about banning journalists, not clubs/managers.
Rather JRod than another guy who is gonna, at best, need to adapt to the league as well as a new team. I've also never heard of him
I don't think we need a goalscoring midfielder, we need a goalscoring striker first! Not to mention that we bought a 'goalscoring midfielder' called Paulinho, who has never fitted in. I don't think Pochettino would be in the market for such a player anyway, unless this Ikdal bloke is also an effective no. 10. He seems to favour midfielders of 3 types - deep-lying midfielders who contribute defensively and move the ball forward (Schneiderlin or Stambouli), playmakers and no. 10s (Lallana or Eriksen), and wide players who deploy as inside forwards cutting in or wingers on their correct side less often (Rodriguez, Chadli). I don't think we have a place in our team for a pure goalscoring midfielder, if such a thing actually exists, unless he also performs as an effective playmaker while scoring enough goals to justify his recruitment ahead of an effective striker, which is THE major hole in the team right now. Also Ikdal's (or is it Ekdal?) goalscoring record for Cagliari is 3 in 77. Given that he's 25 and that that is his best return for any club he has played for at a senior level, I think its safe to pass on the chap.
It's Ekdal. He actually scored all three of those goals on the weekend, netting a first half hat-trick against Inter after they'd been reduced to 10 men.
What is it with Saints fans coming on here, giving it large merely because they've had a lucky start to the season? Let's put them back in their box next weekend and, hopefully, we can get back to how it used to be, with us complaining about not being competitive for top 4 and Saints fans happy just be in the Prem and singing their "ding dong" song about Skates.
In the space of six weeks, Southampton fans have gone from angry and depressed, slating the club for the mass exodus of players to deliriously happy and overconfident on the back some decent form over the first six games of the season. There are none as fickle as football fans.
My favorite media bias moment of the weekend: Rebecca Lowe (I think) on NBC: "Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain provided the difference for Arsenal..." There was no ****ing difference. It was a draw.
In what sense is he a goalscoring midfielder with that record? Might as well describe Robbo as a goalscoring keeper.
SD, I typed the main paragraph on the basis of TMT's post about him being a 'goalscoring midfielder'. I then checked his record and edited in the second paragraph. Perhaps 'goalscoring midfielder' is an aspiration for Mr. Ekdal?
You are truly deluded, Spuds are barely top four in London let alone the Premier league. Yes you are right about Saints, but here's the laugh, you could also say exactly the same about yourselves now...talk about giving it large..deluded
