So with the news that Craig Mackail-Smith will sign for us tommorow here is the latest on twitter about CMS Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony says #LCFC have been very professional in their approaches for Craig Mackail-Smith. First bid was rejected. Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony also says Mackail-Smith is still subject of interest of West Ham but expects him to sign for #LCFC tomorrow He also says whoever signs Mackail-Smith will get promotion next season because of the goals he'll score for them #LCFC. I think Mackail-Smith is a good signing as long as the 3M quoted price isnt all in one go
The fee doesn't bother me, I am concerned about who else we're bringing in up front though. Does the Mackail-Smith signing mean the Maynard signing is off? How many more are we bringing in? Has Nugent fallen through? Is Waggy going? Is Derbyshire coming? Is Evans going to be first choice? Until these questions are answered I can't decide whether I'm happy with this signing or not.
I dont think signing Mackail-Smith means no Maynard. I think it means no Derbyshire if anything. I still think Maynard and Nugent are still targets and within the next 10 days they will either be Leicester players are we would have moved on
Need a big squad to compete in all competitions? 46 in league? plus cups. Take no chances if we havethem, no one else has, buy, buy, buy!
The fact is if maynard doesn't want to leave bristol, he has no ambition...so don't want him anyway........especially if he signs a new contract....no premier clubs have gone for him....my prediction is, he will leave there at christmas after their season has gone nowhere again....(if he is still fit) if we don't get him now..he will be begging to come then........
Yeah, good point John, if it all goes pear-shaped for Maynard and Bristol City are languishing near the bottom of the league then we could get him for say £2 million in Jan. On Mackail-Smith, I would be pleased with the player himself but maybe £3 million is a bit over the top. However, I suppose the fee is subjective to his performance. If he scores 20-25 goals that fire us to promotion then I'm sure we'll be saying what a bargain at £3 million.
I believe your in for a shock my friend, Bristol City are a club with huge ambition & Nicky Maynard knows this & feels his ambitions can be reached with us. So you think our season will be going nowhere by christmas, no way mate, we are as good a club as Leicester or any other championship club, so watchout Bristol City are on the move, upwards.
Dear God and John F Allen not this again Every Club has ambition, and Bristol City are no different. I mean you have to be ambitious to think you will ever fill your new stadium, or to think it's ever going to get built. If you were that ambitious you'd be making a load of signings, instead your main activity is trying to hold on to your best striker. Maynard or no Maynard, you're crap and nowhere near as good a club as us or a number of clubs in this league.
Sorry but can only see mid table at best dont think you will have the squad to compete at the top even with Maynard where is your back up when he is injured again. This is also my concern about splashing silly money around. Would rather we went back in for Yakubu might be lazy but will stay fit and will score us 20-25 goals without breaking sweat!!!
How do you know he wouldn't get injured? He's getting on a bit, injuries tend to happen more frequently as you get older and they take longer to recover from. I'm pretty sure Yakubu was playing with an injury for the whole time he was with us Maynard's had a couple of serious injuries but neither were related. It's when they recur that you should be worried. So far in the opinion of Bristol fans he's been the same as he was before the injury. Yakubu will get goals but I believe Maynard would offer goals AND the movement and workrate which is necessary for us to play the style we want to. Movement up front is so important for a passing game, as is pressing - see Spain. I would hate to see Yakubu here standing around up front and then people ignoring it because he's scored a few goals. Goals are important for a striker but they aren't the be all and end all.
Bloody hell! I've upset a Leicester fan alright, must be getting worried that little all Bristol City are has good if not better than his team. We know that next season might not see us get promoted, but as I have already mention, we are a club going forward & with a great future, so watchout!!!!!!!!!
... well I've heard he'll sign today as long as we meet Bristols demands... so it's £3 mill plus Bill Maynard going the other way... ;-)
Not bothered whether we get Maynard or not, think he is over-rated and there are other players out there that will do same job as him, he's not unique. CMS is the sort of player we've been missing, a natural finisher who gets under the skin and poaches goals as well as doing all the running and fighting. Fryatt was similar although as soon as his confidence went he had a tendency to stay hidden IMO
So we sold a player who scored a shed load of goals in the lower leagues (and had an excellent strike rate of 1/2 in the Championship last year with Hull) for £1.2M and hope to replace him with a player who scored a shed load of goals in the lower leagues and we will buy for a higher fee no doubt. I think CMS certainly has potential but this doesn't make footballing or financial sense.
Watchout for what exactly? Even at this point our team is quite a lot better than yours and we've not even started. I'm not saying autos is a definite but I'd be confident of a play-off place right now. So why would we be worried about you? I'm just a little fed up with a small club giving it the big'un every day because they're ****ting themselves about losing a player.
Well it appears speculation is very good at 'nearly' confirming players that are to sign. But this article seems pretty certain that CMS is now a fox: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12874_7013343,00.html
