Which game was it when Les Taylor or Wilf Rostron scored from just inside our own half? Brilliance, pure brilliance..

So was I, then 9 years old and my Mum took me to visit my Grandad who was born in Sunderland the following day! Re the Pat Rice goal, I was sitting in the Family Enclosure then, in the lower part of the now-demolished East Stand, at the end nearest the Vic Road end (right in front of the IVECO sign for those who remember it) and it was taken from the touchline right in front of me - the angle (and time) probably makes it seem further out than it was.

In those days a Director of the company where I worked was also a Sunderland Director - and a pretty nasty bloke he was too. I sacrificed my programme the next morning by placing it under the windscreen wipers of his car. Allthough he pretended not to be amused - he came storming into my office saying he knew it was me who did it - he also smiled and refused to return the programme to me. Luckily I had another.

I was there too - that game nearly changed the course of my life, I flew back to Oz the Monday after it but was soooo tempted to stay.

Don't know, but I do remember Les Taylor scoring with a header from our half/inside the centre circle at Wrexham almost exactly a year before...

Tomorrow will be our wedding anniversary. I have been lucky that Mme has been tolerant of my passion for WFC for half a century. She actually knows more about football than she would wish to let on. Last Saturday we sat in the LGT, but before we married she would stand with me in the old Rookery stand, often as very lonely spectators. Maybe we haven't done too badly as none of our four children would say that they supported any other club. Hoping for a win Saturday, but doubt that I will have much contact as we will be in Yorkshire. I will catch up though next week when back in rural France.
