We could do with one of the Qatari clubs coming in for him, I can see that being his next move, there or somewhere in Turkey
Really disappointed with his attitude, if he had any balls he would have come out and said that he intended to fight for a place in the team. I trust Adams judgement on this one 100%, Bassong is still sulking cos' his 'Daddy' got the bullet, diddums
Unfortunately he has history. He was sulking in the reserves when Spurs bought him and sulking in their reserves when we bought him. Unfortunately I cannot see anybody paying him the money he is on here and I doubt he will agree to go out on loan leaving us paying him in excess of £1m a year for doing nothing until his contract runs out.
What pisses me off,is if I failed to perform or contribute at work i would be out the door, contract or no contract. Get rid of the waster, and see him in court.
How do you qualify that though? I'm guessing he turns up for training when expected at least, and if he doesn't then I'm sure the club fines him accordingly. If you're a milkman and you stop delivering people's milk then you'll clearly be out of a job pretty soon, but it's a bit more difficult knowing where to draw the line with footballers, particularly with the complexity of the contracts they have nowadays. Regarding the drain of £1m a year from the club, I imagine he'll be costing us a fair bit more than that as I reckon he'll be on £25k a week at least even with any relegation clause we had in, and when you add NI and all that I reckon it'll be nearer £2m a season he'll cost us.
In the real world (not cloud football) most employees have assessments, and rolling contracts. If you don't perform out you go. Why should footballers be any different? I still say sack him,and see him in court
But what exactly has he done to be guilty of that? I haven't seen any evidence and as far as I'm aware he's not made any negative statements to the press about the club or Neeyull, nor has he refused to play when selected. I'm not trying to defend him, it is obvious there is something not right and I want him out of the club as quickly as you all do, but it's not as simple as just terminating his contract and sacking him because he's unhappy and we want him off the wage bill.
I think you answered your own question, football very clearly does not operate in the "real world" these days and tends to make it's own rules.
Furthermore, in the real world, to be fired for incompetence he would have had to have been disciplined several times and found to have broken agreements off the back of the disciplinary hearings/meetings. I'm not sure Bassong's case necessarily relates to that.
"Constructive dismissal" A colleague of mine was sacked because he refused to accept "a reduction in statusand salary" Went to court,he won, never got his job back, and got £10,000 compensation.Less than a 1/3 rd of his salary. Working on that theory, pay Bassong off with 300K or sack him and take the risk.
Something like that would make a bit more sense. He hasn't actually been 'incompetent' (I know, I know, he was quite rubbish last season haw haw haw etc etc), but he could be 'paid off'. However, I get the impression he'd want quite a sizeable payout. Also, we don't ACTUALLY know what has gone on. We don't know exactly what his side of the story is. Maybe Adams is actually the 'bad guy' with regards to him not playing... or maybe Bassong is being an arse. Difficult to say.
Bassong was player of the season for Newcastle when they got relegated. Many accounts have detailed how he was quick to rule out playing for the club after relegation - causing considerable resentment with other players. He also refused to play in pre-season friendliest. I haven't heard a whisper out of Carrow Rd about the exact 'dispute/s' with Seb, but to say he has previous is an under statement. Everyone knows that while bank balance is important for most of us, at this level, football is also about commitment, team, morale and confidence. Bassong clearly has or has caused many of these issues. I think it is inevitable he will leave - unless he looks hard at the lack of alternatives and realises he could condemn himself to playing in a third rate league like Belgium or Turkey, earning less and having much less enjoyment of the game. I still believe he could be not just our best central defender, but our best player. On form he is a leader and a major force. I would love that scenario to play out. Sadly I think he is set to leave and decline. Huge shame. (Edit addition) Of course the most likely thing is he will follow Hughton wherever he goes.
Unfortunitely this is where to much power is in the hands of the footballers and their agents. In most instances of any player or more promanently manager getting sacked it is always talked about in terms of paying up the remainder of their contract. I think to involve lawyers will just mean we end up paying for the remainder of his contract and then his and our legal fees. I can't imagine that the contracts are written with any great loopholes for us and others to exploit. As Munky says, he has not to an outside observer done anything wrong. He signed a contract that NCFC offered him, the terms were mutually agreeable. I can't see a way out of this now. Can we offer him to manure for emergency loan? Bah!
Hughton getting the Fulham job would probably be our best chance of getting rid of him now, probably on loan until January. Fulham are short at the back, could pay some/most of his wages, and Hughton might be able to persuade him to join. And he wouldn't be joining an immediate rival.
As soon as Hughton gets a job, I imagine Bassong will go on loan. I can see Hughton possibly getting the Fulham job, I actually think it'd be a good fit. (Haven't checked any news today, so I bet Fulham have appointed someone) Sorry DH, didn't read the whole thread. Basically what he said.
