The major difference is that Branfoot would probably have taken us down whereas Sam has been relatively successful.

Incidentally, I knew Branfoot from when I took my FA badge. He is a decent bloke and a good coach. He just looked at that Saints squad and decided that his way was the best to utilise their combined abilities. Ball came in and, thankfully, saw a different way.

Well I'm not sure Liverpool have many players better than him!!!
They've lost the one world class player they had who along with Sturridge scored shedloads to get them second place. I think Brenda's summer transfer policy will bite him on the bum, invested a lot on quantity when he would of been better off buying fewer with greater quality. They need to start cementing consistent top 4 finishes before achieving greater things. With three defeats on the board already they could well be taking two steps back after their progression last season.

That is debatable but the only player they should build the team around is named Sterling, they won't though and they will continue to find ways to fit Gerrard in, despite him being a complete liability for the last 2 years at least. For me Lallana isn't good enough to really shine if he isnt being given the ball all the time, not saying he is a bad player as very few players are good in this situation.

Perhaps that was why Lallana kept kissing it.

I don't feel sorry for Lallana at all. He has got cocky. He should have stayed with us but Tadic to be honest looks better so stuff him.
Shaw too, just a kid and now in the wilderness....where do these guys get off.

I can almost guarantee that none of them regret leaving. They were unhappy with the direction and the personnel on the Board, as well as lack of communication an perceived lack of appreciation etc. Their overriding feeling will still be one of so glad to be here, playing in CL, and earning a shedload more cash. The league position won’t matter at all to them, especially not at this point. Cementing their place in one of Europe’s most famous teams will be something they look back on after they’re retired.

As much as I hope they do regret it, eating their words, and seeing them have to admit publicly that they were wrong to say we lacked ambition is about all we can hope for.

I don't agree with that. Playing every week in front of adoring fans is like a drug, when that gets taken away & negativity sets in, money does not make up for it. I'd even go as far to say, I bet Adam misses the south coast & familiarity, with a young one in tow, things can quickly become very difficult. Its too early to say all this, but I just don't think it will pan out like he hoped.

Lallana gave us some great years and we may have had the best of him. Deep down, and somewhat reluctantly, I actually wish him well. don't want him back though, that chapter is over for him and for us.

I would take Rickie back, as I'd far rather see him on our bench than Liverpool's, but I suspect he's happy where he is to be honest. He'll get on occasionally and he'll get goals occasionally, and in truth that would have been the same had he stayed at Saints. He's gone home, good luck to him; ****it, I still love the guy.

The one other player I am gutted about losing is Chambers. I think he's just going to go on improving.

Luke Shaw, who was a very good defensive left back for us could have a John O'Shea type career path, by which I mean he'll just fall short at the highest level.

Lovren can just **** off. Though I actually think he will succeed at Liverpool, I don't really give a toss one way or the other.

Yes, but bad feelings for management and feeling hard done by goes a long way. He feels so negatively about us – he may envy our position, he may feel he judged things incorrectly. But it is extremely difficult to admit to yourself you regret things when you feel you’re in the right – especially when he’s not isolated up there, but infact got a few pals around him. When he’s on the pitch playing Madrid in the CL, he won’t be thinking he regrets things, I can almost guarantee you. When they get knocked out at the group stage and fail to finish top four, he may not feel great; but until he is shifted to Villa or Newcastle, I doubt there will be any regrets.

Of course, all depends on the person. I’m self-confident enough to be judging him as I am in his position. If he’s a self-doubter, or insecure about things, maybe he’d feel differently.

I think the person that may most regret things could be Poch if things go bad at Spurs. He may feel he should have learned the ropes under less pressure down our way a bit longer. And maybe he’ll look at all the plaudits Koe will hopefully be getting, and remember those days too. I hope so badly he fails and takes that club down a notch, so it doesn’t even become an option for Schneiderlin.

The more success we have, and the less successful former top four clubs are, though, the more likely Koeman will get poached by a club that is involved in the domino effect of managers trading up.

Unless Mauricio turns it round, he may regret leaving us on one level, but he will no doubt move onto another club with scarcely a look back. Lambert will be looking for our results and wishing us well, but he is now back home earning top money, so doubt he has any regrets. Not quite such a good time for Lovren and Lallana, but they are also probably happy to be at Liverpool (who won't always keep losing, will they?). If they have any character, they will knuckle down and work on improving. Luke must be the most unsettled as he is so young and very immature...he has two choices...learn from the hard times and aim to be better and fitter or take the money and coast like many players have done before him and start being loaned out. Chambers will be fine at Arsenal...he will be given time as most players who go there take one step back before moving forward. Success is the best revenge, so let's keep moving forward (I would have said upward, but we haven't got far to go, have we?<laugh>).

I presumed it was higher, but you could be right. Let's hope he isn't relying on win bonuses<laugh>

We appear to have turned into Arthur Daley, flogging players that were excellent in Southampton and then legging it with the cash before anyone notices that they don't fit into the next team. I remember in the 90s when we did the same thing with Kevin Davies, made a shedload of money and got Beattie into the bargain.

Yep - I'm actually kind of surprised people even buy our players anymore. :p
