CL Watch!

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, Sep 16, 2014.

  1. Let's use this space to track the success of English clubs in Europe's elite competition.

Well, when I say "success" I would also suggest that this thread be used to track the humiliations that will inevitably be suffered, especially by the new whipping-boys, 'Pool, and by those long-standing whipping-boys, Arsenal.

Let me provide you lads with my expert analysis for the up-coming round of matches.

Tonight, I expect 'Pool to limp to victory, at home, against Ludo. Any team that is named after a 70s board-game is obviously taking the piss, and cannot have any business worth doing on a football field. Nonetheless, I expect them to give 'Pool a good run for their money, but I'd be surprised if 'Pool don't win by at least one goal. Certainly, a loss to Ludo would count as a massive humiliation.

As for Arsenal's game in Germany, I think it's all about how many Dortmund are going to score. I don't foresee telephone numbers, but I do think that the Germans are more than capable of putting on a show and shipping at least 2 clear goals past the Gunners' increasingly dodgy defence. I would not be at all surprised by a 3-1 scoreline.

Call it "UEFA watch" and then you cover all Scouser involvement (not just the Mouser faction) .

Absolutely no way this thread could go wrong.

I think Arsenal will win and qualify from their group. Dortmund are not the team that qualified and I think Arsenal have an easy group.

Pool will get spanked by Real, but how good Basle are, I don't know. I see that as 50:50 based on their team last year and recently.

"I think Arsenal will win and qualify from their group."

You can always rely on the Goons to snatch 2nd place from the jaws of group winner victory.

This thread will be defunct by Xmas.

Then we'll have to argue about who will be the CL next season and whether it could be an all PL EL final this season.

Paul Scholes says Factitious may mess up leading to an English winner.

Barca and Bayern are English now?

    It shouldn't. We'd get 5 places this season <ok>

The only way you could get CL in that scenario is if you were to win the EL, in which case 5 teams from England would go through <ok>, although if the EL winner has already qualified for the CL does the other finalist get the spot? ie if you and milan were in the final but Milan had already secured CL for the next season...

I think it is feasible to have 6 places. If the CL winner and the EL winner both finished outside the top 4, they'd all get in. But they have changed the rule (too late for us <grr>) whereby a CL winner outside the top 4 gets the place of the 4th place team.

And no, pretty sure only the EL winner can get qualification.

Nope. They changed the rules after the scenario had affected exactly one team. I'll let you guess who that was... <grr>

Kagawa v Welbeck tonight. Who would have thought that when the CL draw was made?

    #12
  13. It would but for the fact that I tend to laugh myself to sleep thinking that there are Mousers out there, in the real world, who genuinely believe that they have even the slightest chance of dodging past the half-decent sides, let alone the top boys.

Bale scores for Real Madrid - shortly after another less renowned ex-Spurs player Jonathan Obika scored for Swindon

    30:50 Goal scored
Goal! Goal! Real Madrid 3, FC Basel 0. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) right footed shot from very close range to the centre of the goal. Assisted by Gareth Bale.

    29:22 Goal scored
Goal! Goal! Real Madrid 2, FC Basel 0. Gareth Bale (Real Madrid) left footed shot from very close range to the bottom right corner. Assisted by Luka Modric.

The Real Hotspurs warming up very nicely indeed.

Immobile making a mockery of his name by running from his own half to net against the Goons.
They've been awful in this half and should be at least another goal down.

Danny Welshite showing again that Van Gaal actually probably knows what he is talking about. And then Arsenal go and concede from a throw in in the opposition half!
