Agree. At Liverpool any loss of form and a very good replacement is sitting on the bench to replace you pronto. Lambert, I think, always knew he was unlikely to score shed loads and be a regular starter. That transfer was about a dream move to his boyhood club, Saints fans can relate to that. Also Rodgers knows he can throw him on at 83mins and he could turn a game, while not sulking. Bumfluff face could find things difficult if his form falters. Could be funny. Lounge suit Lovren came to us with a slightly iffy reputation, iirc following a minor spat with management. Well Liverpool can't claim they didn't know. My opinion of Fonte as a footballer has increased since Lovren has left, CBs are about partnerships and he's made a few look good. Just noticed Gaston is "unfit" for Hull tonight. Some things don't change.
I hate Lovren the most, but I am most disappointed in Lallana. Lovren had no reason to be loyal - even if he did keep talking about how much he loved it here. Lallana was the captain of a successful Saints side. He was a badge kisser. He played his part in selling us a dream. Then, at the first chance of glory, he pissed off to the grubby north. Not only did he play a rather ****ty media game, revealing inner workings at St Mary's via various dupes in the press, but he also refused to even meet Koeman -- highlighting that it was never about OUR ambitions, but about his. I found his dishonesty in the process pathetic and the advert he posted in the Echo was one of the most empty gestures I've ever seen. I believed him to be a Southampton hero, but he wasn't. Therefore, I am hoping he fails. Badly.
I watched that game. Lallana was a bit anonymous but so was the entire Liverpool offense. Villa scored first, then parked the bus and did a pretty good job of it. Lallana to me wasn't any worse than Markovic or Balotelli.
Must admit I watched the game hoping they'd fail - and they did Big difference from our new boys who have made an instant hit - but same seems to be for Man U - hope Di Maria is injured for our game!
What I dislike the most about Lallana was that he never even gave it a try. He didn't see that maybe we still had our ambition. Morgan may have wanted to go but since being forced to stay he has knuckled down and worked hard and is reaping the benefits. As well as Lallana's supposed threats that he would never play for us again, he was also our captain, a oerson who should have kept the ship steady instead of throwing all the toys out of the pram. Some display. Rickie and Adam were heroes in the shirt but only the former will ever get a good reception. Lallana has burnt his bridges and I hope he fails.
My TOP 10 list, going from "hope he's an abject failure" through to "hope he does okay" reads something like this - (with the last 4 fitting into no resentment at all). 1. Lallana 2. Lovren 3. Osvaldo 4. Pochettino 5. Shaw 6. Chambers 7. Sharp 8. Ramirez 9. Hooiveld 10. Lambert
I agree...he was the cause of it all. He probably excused his behaviour by saying we lacked ambition (an obvious lie as it turns out) which was repeated by the whinging weasels who wanted out.
He's at four because I don't actually think he was the cause of it all - in that sense it was Nicola, and Poch was always his pawn. Hence, despite everything, I don't harbour quite as much dislike for the man.
If we finished above Spurs it would be hilarious. Levy would probably sack Pochettino, go for Koeman but this time would be told to **** off. #dreamscenario
Agreed. That would be sweet. As would the unlikely scenario of finishing above Liverpool. That would potentially then become "best season ever" in schadenfreude terms. In fact, it definitely would be.
I think we will be very close to Spurs because both teams will be top ten and neither will be top four....we could even be above Spurs by the odd place. Hopeful of a very good season.
Oddly, I'm not that upset at Pochettino. I thought (and still think) he made a big mistake leaving and going to Tottenham, but that's about it. Unlike Lallana, he was at the end of his contract so would have to extend or go. I don't believe he poisoned the players against the club either. To the extent that maybe the players wanted to leave because MP did, that's to his strength as it shows he was a good manager. He pulled the players aside at some point at told them he was leaning towards going, but I don't have a problem with a manager doing that. He never publicly said he would stay so there were no promises broken. Not that MP's my favorite guy either. I'm just sorta neutral on him.
TSS. you are brilliant. I see you as Mr sensible. Plays everything straight down the middle... and then you go to the trouble of putting that on his shirt on a computer game. I salute you sir. Well done.
Done one in honour of our Captain Fantastic, but that doesn't make Rickie any less of a Saints hero with me. We wouldn't be in the premier league without the massive contributions of Adam and Rickie, and in a few years they will be looked back with the same fondness of other "Club legends" that moved on.
Question: What have popular Saints Legends Alan Ball, Mick Channon, Ron Davies, Bobby Stokes and Anti Niemi got in common? Answer: They have all been associated with The Skates in some capacity........
Lallana is No1 because within the space of a few months he went from saying it would be a dream to finish his career here to wanting out and then 'allegedly' refusing to pull on a Southampton shirt again. Anyway.Rodgers is ****e, Liverpool are ****e (must be if Gerrard is still playing for them) and I will enjoy their finishing position below us in 8th. As the noble Nelson would say.................Ha, ha.
