We won't know how the mouser's season will shape up until they start playing CL as well as EPL. I don't think their squad has the all round strength to cope with both. If they get lucky with injuries, they may surprise me, but at the moment, I think they'll struggle to make Top 4.

The Goons, I think will get there - unfortunately!...

  2. Agreed.

I think it's for us to take that 4th spot off them.

The Goons, City and Chelsea are as close to being nailed on to get top 4 as any 3 ever have been imo.

Pool, Utd, us, Everton for the next spot, possibly in that order.

One to cheer up the local Mousers.
Dessert Weasel posted this picture after Arsenal were gifted a draw with City by the ref on Saturday:

He originally added this to it:
Samuel L. Jackson: Not only does he know a lot about good movies, but he also supports the best football team! ;-) #AFC

He swiftly deleted it and reposted with different text, presumably after somebody told him that Jackson is a Liverpool supporter. <doh>
Seems like he's **** on and off the pitch now, doesn't it?

I guess we'll see. Nobody ever won the title or qualified for the CL after 4 games though. Utd fans should know that from history.

I'm feeling more and more comfortable with Chelsea, City, Man U and Arsenal top four, possibly in that order, with Liverpool fifth. Someone pointed out Liverpool's season had already been disrupted by CL football before they played their first game. Resting Sterling, who has become one of the best players in the PL, while Sturridge was hurt was not a good idea. But it's understandable. Play Sterling both games, have him pick up a knock and suddenly his team is in serious trouble. Only play him in the league and not the PL, and fans won't be happy to see a weakened team in the first CL game.

The only thing that may keep Man U out of the top four is LVG, and I'm afraid even he has enough sense not to do that. Conversely, I'm counting on Wenger not to realize he should build his team around Cazorla and Sanchez, and bench Ozil, Welbeck and Wilshire. Giroud's not the best striker in the world, but he's not bad either, and considerably better than Welbeck.

  10. I think one of United and 'Pool may come lucky this season and finish in the top 4, but not both. At the moment, I am more inclined to believe it will be United, as I think Mr Dodgy Barnet has more of a general clue about things than Roy Rodgers.

Plus, as soon as 'Pool take a their first massive tonking in the CL - and that will happen just as soon as they meet their first half-decent team - it will sap whatever confidence Rodgers has been able to beat into their thread-bare squad.

Isn't that the third or fourth season on the trot they've lost to Villa? If Villa are a bit of a bogey team for them then as last year, if they lost then they've nothing to worry about because they made the CL which they can do. One man doesn't make a team so the loss of Suarez will soon go away.

Liverpool well and truly ****ed up this summer. Bought poorly yet spent a fortune. How have they repeated the same mistakes <laugh>

Heres a little stat that will go down well here. Liverpool have spent the most money in world football om not winning their domestic league. Only two clubs have spent more since 1990. Both are owned by multi-billionaires.

  18. ...but only if United, Everton and us have poor ones.

I'd agree with others, that Chavs, £ity and Goons ought to be shoe-ins for the top 4, which means that there is only one other place up for grabs.

We'll see, but IMO Liverpool last year were 4 1/2 key players and 5 1/2 erm... The best of the key players left. The second one is now injured, and has a history of injuries. The third was rested against Aston Villas. So they had Gerrard and Coutinho (the 1/2). Hardly a surprise they lost. If Balotelli can play something close to his best and Sturridge and Sterling stay healthy, they can repeat what they did last year. If 1/3 fail to help much they'll struggle for fourth, and if 2/3 do...they'll be relying on their new signings, especially Lallana, to step up. The question is whether they, and him, can be as effective for Liverpool as their big 4 1/2.
