As someone who signed up to protest at the destruction of the reef, I have found it difficult to keep up with the news. The reef comes somewhat below the latest affair of the President and his dipping poll ratings out here. Actually the BBC did mention it, whereas none of the news services here did. I do believe that these large companies are in a dilemma, either provide the shareholders the return that they expect, or tell them that natural resources should be maintained for the well being of the world. Once again it is the people who invest their money against the environmentalist who have the largest say.

As an update, I've just received an email to the effect that, whilst a decision has yet to be made on where the dumping will be allowed, it has been proposed by the Queensland State Government that the cost should be borne by the taxpayers - leaves me speechless really. There are a lot of unhappy bunnies (or should that be wombats?) around the State today and it wouldn't surprise me to hear that this degenerates into violence. :(

Mind you, it's probably a red letter day for the Green Party as their numbers and popularity will surely soar...

Maybe the Green Party in Oz is different to ours. Their objectives are things that many of us would approve of, but the means by which they would achieve them are quite untenable. Idealism is one thing that should make people think, but the Greens expect the people here to pay through the nose to gain what? Unless they can show in a better way how they can preserve the planet for future generations and give something back to those who pay, then their cause is lost in my opinion.

http://www.football365.com/premier-league/9461958/-? Shows how little Strachan understands the English game and how ignorant he is of Watford, Celtic would be a massive step backwards and the Scottish premier league would be detrimental to his development, why go from a top 5 league in Europe to a pub team equivalent?

aha... I have posted something similar elsewhere....... I suppose playing for Celtic is like being a big fish is a small pond...

I Pm'd Toby but not sure whether he got it:
