Correct. At best it was arrogant to assume that we would keep sterling. At worst it is gross negligence to not have determined that Scotland would effectively run from the Bank Of England and have no control at all. Well done Salmond and co. What else are you not telling us?
Interesting article just popped up in my fb news feed about Scotland's wooing of that great supporter of minorities and human rights : http://www.scmp.com/magazines/post-magazine/article/1585089/courting-dragon No scruples there then. So this isn't about Scottish values: "Edinburgh was, after all, known in the 18th century as a place where middle-class professionals and intellectuals flocked to think freely and to ponder the free will of man" Well we all know about free will in China... eh... And for Scotland: "An ethical foreign policy is “a nonsense because the world is not an ethical place”, goes the argument. The moral highroad is full of bumps, switchbacks and nasty precipices. Hypocrisy potholes are unavoidable" So we are not looking about a future independent country which stands up for the common man then????
Whatever happens I just hope that the result isn't a 'messy' one by a small majority for either side! We need a decisive vote one way or the other or else I can see these great islands of ours descending into anarchy and chaos.
My opinion.. not the daily whatever or any TV channel mine.... Option A) Keep the pound... Requires negotiation and agreement with the BOE and Westminster. Likely terms BOE control over liquidity of Scottish economy, no other way can BOE be lender of last resort, just not acceptable. Option B) Use the pound as a monetary unit but English notes only. Zero input by Edinburgh in fiscal strategy therefore very unlikely. Option C) Apply to Euro, unlikely to be accepted in short term as will not meet criteria. Gives economic control to Brussels. Option D) Independent currency. Set up Scottish gold reserve using converted notes currently on deposit at BOE. Small financial base and new currency will be expensive to set up and put Scotland at high risk of attack by speculators. Likely dire consequences for business. D is the only option that Salmond will have as being aligned to "independence" and therefore has a high probability of being the chosen option allbeit it will take maybe 5 years to implement but this is why we are beginning to see capital flight and contingency planning from major business based in Scotland.
Look into Norway economy and sovereign wealth fund versus growth in national debt you might be surprised as to the legacy that they have built and perhaps it may provoke some thought regarding long term planning of the economy post oil....... Not going to bore folk but if they're interested just do your own research and reach your own conclusions...
Going back to smurf's argument that if you support the NO vote or even challenge the YES vote you must be pro-tory, my good friend Tom really slams the labour party for broadly supporting the coalition view in relation to the NO campaign http://anotherangryvoice.blogspot.co.uk/ Too much to go through here and I don't have the brain space to do it, currently editing chapters for a third book coming out next summer. Basically Labour should have pushed Devo Max... which is probably my position too.... as near to a federation as we can get..... "When asked to choose between Devo Max and full independence, the Devo Max option won 61% to 39%. When asked to choose between Devo Max and continuation of the status quo, Devo Max won by 62% to 38%."
Spot on also, we've seen it in Venezuela already the imperialist USA replaced by the imperialist China, there will always be a world order and the result here will be the imperialist Westminster replaced by the imperialist Edinburgh. I really do want to find a small island with no other people to worry about just me and a fishing rod with a box of matches, ultimate independence no other people to disagree with, only myself to blame if I don't eat, only myself to credit if I catch a bumper selection of tasty seafood.... Very very tired, very very fatigued, very very fed up by the prospects of the upcoming confrontations whatever the result.... Too old for this sh*t.....and not willing to pay more taxes than the ridiculous ones I pay now for a government in Edinburgh to give to gypsies, scroungers, workshy central belt spongers....
ErinBlack is very much at home here with this lot. I think Watford just got a new supporter. Well done Erin for bringing out there true colours.
They get sites, don't use them, create mess that we pay after paying to evict them to clear up.... I really mean travellers, proper gypsies are usually clean and well behaved..
