That Sturridge is out v Villa is a big loss and it will put undue pressure on Mario. However, the Villa game shouldn't be used as a measuring stick. Mario is not here to take upon him lone striker duties - he is to be partners with Sturridge. Of course, the odd time he will have to perform without Sturridge, but I for one, will consider that a bonus. I think he, Sturridge and Sterling complement one another very well.

This bit is very telling about Mario. It's from the horse's mouth. Well, not the horse's, the horse's manager:

...Raiola now expects Balotelli to flourish at Anfield, having been freed from the responsibility and pressure of leading his team. “I sought out for him a team where he can be an important element without being asked to be a leader,” Raiola said, according to Football Italia. “Liverpool have (captain) Steven Gerrard. There Mario will be protected and can give his best. “Now it’s up to him (to succeed). Another flop is inadvisable … Not everyone is born to be a leader and a good striker is not always a leader either. “Mario needs to get this pressure off his shoulders. He must feel free to score goals and that’s it.” Raiola added that Liverpool will be Balotelli’s last opportunity to fulfill his potential — that of being one of the best players in the world. “At the top level, yes,” Railo answered when asked if this was Balotelli’s last chance to prove his greatness. “It’s either make or break now. If it goes wrong? Mario is 24 years old. He no longer has the alibi of his age.”

Speaking about horses.... Welbeck is one. Good horse, good lad, good ethic, good fundamentals and can be an effective blunt weapon in a certain setup, but he just doesn't have Mario's toolbox. Far from it. He just doesn't have the finesse of Mario or his incisive instincts. Quite understandable, being that one was raised in Manchester and the other one in Italy.

Guess the difference between Welbeck and Balotelli is that with the former you get consistently average and with the latter you get mercurial inconsistent brilliance.

this could end up being a good thing for us or a total mess.

we need to start seeing goals from mario and we also need Lambert to find the back of the net, hopefully both will play and start firing, be better for when sturridge comes back to have a striker on the bench in lambert who has found form and when he comes on nick a goal (was the reason why we got him wasn't it?)

like i said this could go 2 ways, just hope we come out of this ok, getting fed up with why our players keep getting injured on int duty and mainly play full 90 mins.

could also be a good thing for the younger players to get more game time depending on how we line up without sturridge formation wise ie will mario and lambert play together in games, so may see more game time for Markovic, lallana, coutinho etc.

In 2 years time you will all be posting how delighted you are to get rid of Balotelli

maybe paul, position we are in though at the moment, would rather have a player who is unpredictable, than not have one, last one we had in luis almost helped us get the title, if mario can do that as well, well i am going to enjoy the ride.

we had all the press bullshit with luis, and its already started with balotelli ie the behind closed door game, that from what i heard got silly on twitter etc and was bollocks.

In the end there's no better games to lose sturridge for. The Everton one is the only issue

Badontelly has an excellent scoring record and frankly removing all bias possible welbeck is very average and many utd fans have told me so long before Lvg decided he's not up to it

How do you know mystic meg? <ok>

you're just saying that as you went through the fans anger/delight/and all the emotions when he was with you. Manchini is an old school manager, Rodgers is new school, and I truly believe given time Rodgers will get the best out of Mario.

A recent example -

Balotelli vs Spurs

Takes a pop at goal fro 40(ish) yards completely ****s it up - Rodegers smiles and has a little clap.

If the same incident had of happened under Manchini he would have been screaming at Balotelli and probably subbed him.

They have completely different man management skills. Balotelli fits the Rodgers mould far more than the aggressive Manchini way.

Oh and two years hence is a long time off right now is all that matters so if he covers sturridge well and allows lfc to play and win per spurs game we will have a chance at 4th after that then who knows

Nobody I think is going to hero worship the dr like Suarez and Torres surely but maybe they will. A few goals in the next games and god knows

That example just shows that he's prepared to indulge him and allow him do what he likes.

Mancini treated Ballotelli like a son and he still continually let him down, because he's patently as thick as pig s**t.

Rodgers isn't some man management guru, he's got no track record in being something special in that regard and the hoping that he'll be able to somehow tame mad Mario is just that - hope.

No mate youve forgotten about rodgers. Hes like tge manager of a home for naughty children. He will whip him into shape.

Mario listens to authority after all. His career shows many examples of him listening.

Mario is a well behaved young man who will soon be world class.

Hes not? I am shocked. Horrified even.

Weve all been lied to.

You what?

Care to elaborate? Manchini gave him plenty of chances, but was far too strict with him. If someone is too strict with a rebel, they tend to rebel. I come across this exact situation on a weekly basis at work. You have to know how to treat rebels so they don't rebel.

Anyway since his Man City days he's matured - a natural process in humans <laugh>

Time will tell but I think he knows this is his last chance at this kind of level, and I believe Rodgers and Mario are a good fit.

It's obvious rival fans will disagree, that's just a given.

You'd have disagreed, if he wasn't a Liverpool player now.

Leopards and spots and all that. He'll revert to type at some point, nailed on.

Mancini too strict with him? Jesus wept
He totally indulged him while being inflexible and intolerant with players like Bellamy and tevez

Mario is inherently lazy, which given liverpools on field work ethic is far higher than most,I can only see as problems on the horizon. It was interesting how differently the media's take on it was at white hart lane,if that performance from him had been in a City shirt he would've been slaughtered but apparently it was a great start from him when the reality was he had a poor game

Ok, we get it. The press hate Man City and love Liverpool. If Kompany was a Liverpool player he could miss half the season with injury and still be rated as the best centre back in the league & invited onto match of the day regularly...

In short the impression you guys have of badontelly are not bad but you can't really know whether Mancini did or didn't indulge or really if he was a disasterous man manager or a great one from our distance

All lfc fans can say is our set up is not the same as that set up and we can only wait and see how badontelly reacts to it

From the outside most fans I think have concluded the guy is nuts and gets bored and in trouble easily as a result but it's an impression.... Usually they are not far off of course

Harry Redknapp calls Adel Taarabt the worst trainer he's ever had, he arrived back at QPR in pre season after spending last season at Milan. He said to Old Arry, if you think I'm a bad trainer you should see Balotelli boss. True story.

Once the honeymoon period passes he'll slowly but surely return to his natural ways
