I haven't looked at that thread for a long time, dave, and the principle still holds- nobody is forced to read it.
If it is the forum equivalent of a padded cell then is it really doing any harm?
If there were some serious issues with it, then perhaps we should be told what they were, if possible- after all, the board "belongs" to all of us.
If people were just complaining that it was tedious, then I think that criticism could be levelled at a fair proportion of the stuff we come out with.

The thread probably did need closing down as Sisu was propping it 90% by himself and employing it as his own propaganda leaflet. Nobody should have to cope with a padded cell popping up in one's field of view every day even if one doesn't go in to have a peek. Visual annoyance more than anything.

Question is however of more interest when expanded in scope. Many other inane threads go on and on, whilst ones with merit get merged, or closed without a trace. In general, very few original OPs pop up on these shores nowadays, mostly it's the usual guff wafting around. It's a sign of wariness, mistrust and apprehension and something could be done to enliven debate.

Over the season there will be nonsense threads and there will be threads that encourage serious debate it's always been a good blend.

If we were going to employ the stricter rules of some other forums, then we would have to ensure that all threads stayed on topic, and all mindless wumming was summarily dealt with.
Although the latter isn't such a bad idea imo, we have to decide if we want a board that is that narrow in scope. It would also greatly increase the workload on the mods, which might discourage people from taking up the role. They would have to diligently go through everything, and with the best will in the world, their interpretation of the "rules" is subjective and we would just end up with more instances like the one that has prompted this thread, not fewer.

A forum, like all societal groups, is a rough average of its members and, like the 2.4 children scenario, will never be fully representative of any individual entity.

The bottom line is, we get the forum we deserve, because we all contribute to it, and we can all take it or leave it as we choose.

Twas ignored though as all posts that contradict his meaningless points are.

Just read through this thread and had to keep checking the posters names to make sure i wasn`t on the Arsenal board
My take on this is, if a thread is getting plenty of current posts then people are obviously interested in it and so it should be left to run, exception being if it becomes personal and/or abusive. If, on the other hand, mods get lots of complaints about it then maybe something has to be done. In my opinion Gerez made a fair decision here, he didn`t close the thread, he just moved it so the interested posters could continue to use it.

I find Livtors comments insults rather amusing. I apparently see insults as part of a healthy debate but lost count of the numbers of times I've told him to cut the insults out. In fact, it was only the other day I gave him a warning about it!!!

As for posters asking about rules, we've never had set rules. It's always been the mods opinion on the Liverpool board and it's worked thus far. Why? Because the mods are voted to position and trusted to do what is best for the board. I've said it many times before, if that means without me then so be it.

Lastly, this thread was a piss take by Hash. You lot look like the Arsenal or Tottenham posters!!!
