sky,

did your mate used to do graffiti art before tattooing?

you may have told me before, but i am too stoned to ****ing remember <laugh> apologies lol

Yeah he's dabbled in graffiti (he recently was hired to do the back drop for a local extreme skate park) - but before becoming a tatooist he was an artist mainly doing portraits.

When my brother died, he stole (borrowed) a photo of him from my dads house (a recent photo) and about 6 weeks later he presented my dad with an extremely expensive frame with the most unbelievable portrait I've ever seen in my life. Honestly it was incredible - I think the fact it was such a tough time made him work on it harder. To this day I have not seen a portrait that comes anywhere near how good this one was.

He's been tattoing now though on and off for well over 20 years - his shop doesn't even say tattooist on it, he gets enough business through regulars and word of mouth - put it this way to book an hour slot you'd have to wait between 2-3 weeks. Luckily I'm good friends and he can fit me in when needed, not always though. I had to book for 2 weeks today for my next session as he has no slots until then.

Nice one looking good Sky <ok>

My mate (one of my best men at my wedding) is also a successful tattooist. He has 3 shops and other tattooists working for him. He has customers come from far away to have work done by him. We had a bet at 16 who would have the first Aston Martin and its looking like him <grr>

I actually dont have any. My other mates have a lot courtesy of my mate but I havent. he offered as a birthday pressie but I declined as couldnt decide what I wanted

Like your mate he is an unbelievable artist and some of his custom work is amazing and has been published. He's had his work covered and interviews done and that in these tattoo mags you get. I like to see a good tattoo but just never been that bothered on myself

Holy crap...
Just seen Joan Rivers has died <yikes>

Comedian and TV host Joan Rivers has died, her daughter has said.

Rivers, 81, had been on life support in Mount Sinai Hospital since having a cardiac arrest in New York last week.

In a statement, her daughter Melissa said she died surrounded by family and friends, and she thanked hospital staff for their "amazing care".

The comedian, best known for her lacerating wit, stopped breathing during a procedure on her vocal cords at an outpatient clinic last Thursday.

"My mother's greatest joy in life was to make people laugh," said Melissa Rivers.

"Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon."

<laugh> I've just re-read your other post.

His reason for not getting tattoos is perfectly valid though because he gives blood 'regularly' [how he put it] which could mean every 3 months and if he has a rare blood type he could even be called in the middle of the night for a donation if there was a medical emergency. The rules on donation, and I'm assuming they are universal, say you can't give blood if you've has a tattoo or piercing within the last 4 months before donating.

FFS <doh>

Why was it "great"...? ;)

Yeah obviously there were lesser fires in history

Suppose it's like Alexander the Great.... Obviously he wasn't so great but the other Alexander's were just not as good
