Didn't know getting tattoos impacted blood donation.
I can't give blood. They won't accept blood here from anyone who has eaten beef in the UK.
I'm not allowed to give blood over here. I ate beef in the UK in the 90s.

Germany has the same rules as the US then. Surprised there is no quick easy test they can do yet after all these years.
No a joke- I was simulposting almost the same thing as Nozzer. They won't let me give blood in the US because they think that I might carry mad cow disease.
British blood is a toxic substance. Must be why the giant in Jack & The Beanstalk was so perturbed.
I heard about the mad cow stuff impacting health wise but didn't know it affected blood donation.

I'm guessing it something to do with how long certain things take to show up in the tests. I could be wrong here but I think the longest something can take to appear is three months and I believe blood tests can only be done every six months

Not a joke - see Milk's reply. I think it's an EU-wide thing, although if I remember rightly Ireland (and obviously the UK) got an exception because it either lead or would have lead to massive blood shortages. Because mad cow disease can take decades to show itself, it's still an issue.
It's a shame; they pay you for giving blood here (about 10 euro I think).

Extremely small, if any. As noted above, there have been very few cases identified so far. However, since there is a delay of years until an individual shows signs of the disease, no one can say for sure whether someone is infected.

No test currently exists to identify persons who are infected with vCJD.

CJD - which is the human disease linked with 'mad cows' [BSE] - can lay dormant for up to 50 years before showing up on a blood test.
Yeah, I can earn half a day PTO for giving blood where I work. And they are otherwise stingy about PTO. Stinks I can't contribute.

I've just re-read your other post.His reason for not getting tattoos is perfectly valid though because he gives blood 'regularly' [how he put it] which could mean every 3 months and if he has a rare blood type he could even be called in the middle of the night for a donation if there was a medical emergency. The rules on donation, and I'm assuming they are universal, say you can't give blood if you've has a tattoo or piercing within the last 4 months before donating.
