I don't know if this has already been discussed (if it has please merge this into obscurity modgods), but now that Agger has left, has anyone been announced the new vice-captain? With Gerrard likely to have a smaller role this season too, has anyone been announced vice-vice-captain for when the vice-captain is acting as captain? /Captain.
If I'm too lazy to check previous thread on this I'm too lazy to add a poll. /You may as well delete this. I've seen the far superior, poll-including thread now.
I thought about saying Lovren as I think he will be a good leader but two things stopped me: 1) he's not been here long enough and 2) he acted like a right **** to get the move from Southampton
It should be someone who is a regular starting player. I like Skrtel for the role, but not sure that Lovren/Sakho might be starting more games. Because of this, Henderson seems the natural choice. Everyone else is too new, too young, or just not right for the role/wrong personality.
The armband shouldn't cement a players place. I'd pick a first, second and third choice and all of them should be regular starters so you know it is unlikely that you will be without a captain. My picks would be... 1) Gerrard 2) Hendo 3) Skrtel
I agree... like Gerrard, he's captain, and should remain captain but I don't think he should start every game. However, when giving an armband it would be best to give it to a player who IS starting most games currently. It's a bit pointless to give the armband to someone who isn't going to play much.
We gave the vc to Agger and he hardly played. Club Captain has a figurehead role even when he isn't on the pitch, and for that reason I doubt that Gerrard will relinquish it until he retires. Hendo would be a good choice, he's established himself as a starter now and he's done the job at junior levels for England. I like Skrtel, but he divides opinion amongst the fans so probably not the best candidate.
Going back further, Fowler was captain with Redknapp as VC but both were always bloody injured! In fact, didn't we win a trophy and both were invited to lift the cup despite not being involved?
Tough one really. I'd accept Hendo or Skrtel no problem (people underestimate the pure grit Skrtel puts into every single performance even when he's not playing well) but in a way Rodgers may see this as a sticky one. The local rumour mill suggests he sees Lovren as his long term captain (if he settles as well as he should). If he gives VC to Hendo can he then promote Lovren over him when Gerrard goes? He might be able to do that a bit easier with Skrtel as vice captain simply because he can use the "long term future" excuse to Skrt's. Can't do that with Hendo so easily. Might even keep Skrtel a bit more settled at the club if Sakho does start more often and he's getting fewer games. Genuinely think both would do us proud either way though
this is easy fro me..... if theres one thing we know vice captain is just a nothing, who does the armband head to... well appoint both lovern and hendo as vice captains if you like or even stagger the appointments
