Why is he not featuring for Atletico? They have lost a few players so why are they letting him go? Not doubting the guy, just interested.
Don't think they've lost either of their CB's. And their 2 CB's are top quality (Miranda and Godin), Godin in particular is their main man. He was unlucky to be part of a squad with such a good defensive pair.
Sven Claes ‏@svenclaes 49s Update: Toby Alderweireld from Atlético Madrid passed his medicals tonight at Southampton, but still no personal agreement. #SaintsFC
Why did we bother putting him through the medical in England if we haven't even agreed his wages? Seems pretty pointless.
I don't get the personal agreement on a loan? Unless it is to do with wages next year if we take up an option? Surely we just pay his current wages?
I doubt it's really worked like that. Every single stage of a transfer is strung out due to social media, but on deadline day....every tiny inch of it is stretched out and played out on twitter, so it turns into a will he or won't he saga - when in fact, it's always been pretty much done. It's all standard stuff, and I'm sure the club are 99% confident.
I gathered that he turned down other moves because he wanted a loan rather than a move..presumably for greater flexibility. In other words, show him off in the EPL. A right to buy would remove that advantage.
Right to buy doesn't mean he has to accept our offer. It means Atletico Madrid has to accept it, and the player can still refuse a contract offer from us.
More honest than Lovren (though, of course, we don't get the nice little earner that we did with the viperous one).
Well Wikipedia has been updated: Tobias Albertine Maurits "Toby" Alderweireld (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈtoːbi ˈɑldərˌwɛːrəlt]; born 2 March 1989) is a Belgian professional footballer who plays for English club Southampton and the Belgium national team. Mainly a central defender, he can also play as a right back.
