Pardew given a reprieve...

Is the single most annoying aspect of us not signing a striker and defender IMO. It just completely takes the pressure off of him to finish in the top eight.

It's a season of anything from 10th - 14th will do purely because we've left ourselves short again and even that cretin Pardew will achieve that.

If we'd had signed players for the above mentioned positions he'd have been under scrutiny from the Southampton game onwards but instead that joker will get off lightly again because Ashley and Charnley have failed.

If Pardew can manage 10 - 14th with 3 CB's, one of which is Saylor and the other of which is Willo, then I think he will deserve more credit than you imply.

I, being one of his greatest supporters, think he is mediocre. The team looks like it will consist of a slightly better than average keeper, hopelessly weak central defence, one decent full back, a better than average mid field and a distinctly worrying strike force. If a mediocre result can be coaxed out of that it will be a bit of an achievement.

There's no way on this Earth Pardew can keep this club in the division. He'll get beat @ Southampton, then be at home with the cloud of HBA's exit over his head. Likelihood is at least one CB will get injured and we'll be leaking goals for fun. With Cabella looking lightweight and no goals anywhere, is he really dumb enough to expect the paper-thin confidence of Papiss Cisse to rescue us? No goals + Shipping plenty = relegation. It's the simplest equation in football.

I cannot argue with this. If Pardew finished above 12th with what we're likely to be left with, we'd all have to concede he's decent. I mean, Willo, Saylor and Colo? Is that some kind of hilarious joke I just can't see the punchline to?

But whilst I get it's deadline day, wasn't Mike Ashley himself at the Palace debacle? And we want to take another defender away? For all intents and purposes, that's the backup right back off. Heaven help us if Janmaat gets injured (which he will at around 23:03 tonight).

I think you'll find that should be 5 mins into the Southampton game so we have to waste a sub as well as a place on Saylor...

Ah, of course. Thing is, I'm only half joking - as I've said before, in football when things are going against you they tend to just keep going against you. The crowd hate Pardew. Some still love HBA. Shipping out HBA has only one effect. Going down to the bare bones on defenders will almost inevitably invite a long term injury to one of them.

I dunno, it's just a deperately sad little club at the moment who seem determined to flirt with relegation again. Perhaps there is something in this Rangers thing with Ashley. Certainly in spite of a few quid here and there, his appetite to make this club any good seems as dull as ever.

If it goes badly in the next six games we will be in horrendous trouble. The next lot are even harder and I honestly believe, 'Jobs for the boys' or not, Ashley will have to get rid of him. Some say that he will bring in another puppet and that may be trouble but if we are staring down the barrell of a relegation loaded shotgun he will have no choice but to bring in a good manager.

None, absolute poisoned chalice. I never thought I'd see the day where Tony pulis would turn us down. I reckon he would though. He walked out on palace because of a lack of business and control. I'm not sure who we could get. We may have taken a risk too far this time. Wholesale changes with distinctly average quality incoming.
 
If and when Pardew goes I think Ashley will first turn to Carver. He will probably be left in limbo for several months as an 'Interim Manager' while Ashley decides whether he is good enough (i.e. keeps us up), as he did with Hughton.

For some reason the only name that comes to my mind of anyone decent that we might go for and who might take the job is "Whispering" Glenn Hoddle.

To be honest, I don't think we'll be far enough in the clarts at any point this season for Ashley to pull the trigger.
 
Thing that gets me is Pardew is a human being, I assume he must care what people think, he must have a level of awareness similar to your average person?

He's really quite hated here, so he's either thick-skinned or just plain thick? I understand Ashley's stance that he's paying peanuts for a monkey he feels can secure 17th, but even he must realise that once a crowd turns it doesn't necessarily matter how good the squad is. Spurs under Gross and Ramos is one that instantly springs to mind, but it's not always the weakest squad that goes down, more the weakest club. We are pathetic at the moment and will remain so under this stewardship.

For me, I only mentioned him as the most likely replacement at this stage. As we know, when a member of staff leaves NUFC, they're not actually replaced, i.e. Llambias left, Charnley moved into his role and more or less no-one took Charnley's role, when Donachie was moved on, Beardsley took the reigns and he in turn wasn't replaced. So it follows that Ashley's circle of trust is so pathetically, obscenely small that Beardsley replaces Pardew, Stone takes the U-21's and we don't then get another first team coach. We're basically gearing up for relegation, though Ashley doesn't see it that way. I don't know what the fat man will do when it all crashes down this time.
