Piers Morgan ‏@piersmorgan 4m BREAKING NEWS: I'm hearing we may be getting Welbeck on loan. #DeadlineDay #afc Piers Morgan ‏@piersmorgan 40s Arsenal or Spurs apparently. But we're favourites. Coming to me via 'impeccable Old Trafford sources'. #Welbeck #DeadlineDay #afc
There's a commentary on the BBC's "Transfer Live Deadline Day" website page exhorting Whinger to spend some of his reported £100 million treasure chest on the players that they need, with the suggestion that Gooners won't continue to pay the highest ticket prices in the league only to settle for 4th every year and the odd domestic cup. My immediate response to that was, "yes they will, because they are all mugs!" I'm right, aren't I?
With the Hernandez one, is it a case of paying a 'loan fee' that could amount to say a quarter of the transfer, thus lowering the final fee for the player after the years loan and thus spreading the spending across different fiscal years? Or might they just as well pay the fee in instalments? On a more general level I expect there is a lot of 'creative accounting' going on.
"why are Real signing Hernandez?" FFP related (the deal with di Maria) ?? I would not put it beyond them.
I know you guys might not like him but I think Allam deserves a lot of credit too. Could easily have done the minimum like the Palace but he's got the chequebook out and allowed Bruce the chance to build on a great first season back in the PL.
Oh I'm happy with that, but he's still a c*nt for the name change saga, nothing will ever change that for me.
Think in terms of pound for pound signings, Hull have done exceptional on deadline day. Brought in Ramirez and Ben Arfa on loan and signed Diame and Abel Hernandez... Incredible signings for them.
Hull could finish above us. We need to stop talking about City/Chelsea/Liverpool/Arsenal and probably Utd once they get going on this thread. We're up against Everton for 6th, but 2nd faves there i'd say. We need to look over our shoulders at Hull and Swansea too. Possibly a few others, even Southampton maybe. They seem so well run from a football side of things that they can recover from having their team ripped apart. Something we don't seem capable of.
Our squad is a lot better on paper than any of the teams you mention. We've got the sixth most valuable squad according to Transfermarkt which is about all we can expect given we've got the 6th most income. If we've signed the right players and they are worth more than it now appears there is no reason at all why we shouldn't finish 4th
