The away goals rule discourages one side from defending for the whole 90 minutes like they used to.

You know something, I've NEVER seen us play a big team myself and never been able to afford a season ticket. I go to games where i can afford it. You keep to your preconceived judgemental views and leave it at that

This thread reminded me why i stay off forums now, full of self-opinionated judgemental w**kers. Most City fans are decent but the ones that arent are an embarrassment

Just another point to consider for those who agree that we should rest players - Internazionale, who won the Champions League within the last few years, put out their strongest possible available team despite the fact they won the first leg away 0-3. They want to get as far as possible in the Europa League despite the fact that if they dont make the UCL for next season as a bare minumum the manager will be sacked.

And before anyone talks about squad depth, they havent got it. They'll use their best XI all the way through I suspect and won't rotate.

Don't they also play fewer league games and I suspect they will also be involved in only 1 domestic cup competition.

Serie A is a 20 team division. And considering we tend to play our ressies in the two cups I don't see the relevance.

Nobody can ever convince me that resting players for these 2 games, at the start of the season, when we have an international break on the horizon, was a good idea. I am more gutted about this than I would ever be about relegation.

A hull city side was put out last night that had it played to 75% of it's potential should have beaten a very average Lokeren side.

The fact the majority played to 25% of their potential doesn't fall at SB's door.

The mistake he made however was expecting players accustomed to playing in a 3 man centre midfield to play side by side as a 2. The total lack of anything positive from Meyler and Livermore was our undoing.

We won last night. The damage was done with the 9 changes for the away game.

edit - you could actually argue all outfield players changed in the away game as Chester was in defensive midfield.

No one is happy about going out - but the team we had out there last night should have been able to turn the game around. Too many players had bad performances - Sagbo constantly caught offside, Aluko was woeful, Livermore had his worst ever game for us, Meyler was ineffective and even Chester seemed out of sorts. Blame the players - they had the potential to get us into the group stages but blew the chance due mainly to starting the 2nd half so poorly. It would have been great to get into the group stage and draw one of the giants of Europe - but without the changes made in the first leg there is no guarantee we would have got a point against Stoke on Sunday. We were never going to win the EL, but to go through would've been great. However the big bucks is in the PL and I would be far more downhearted if we got relegated than to be knocked out of Europe.

Even then the damage was done through an individual cock up that no one could legislate for.

Well yes, but we played absolutely ****ing terribly until the subs came on. The simple fact is we could and should have come back here with a 3 goal lead and it would all have been done and dusted.

Splitting with a fantastic girl (Europa League) will mean you have a better chance of going out with average girls (Premier League) because you will have more time (and more energy!). I'd still not want to risk losing the fantastic girl.

How come when we win we complain about how the press report "the other team lost" rather than we had won, yet now it's all about how badly we played?

We have to face it that Lokeren were better over the two legs according to the rules of the competition (i.e. the team scoring most goals and in the event of a tie away goals counting double).

Well done KSC Lokeren, come back soon!

I agree but that doesn't mean we shouldn't think about mistakes, poor decisions on and off the pitch because they led to the goals.
