Reckon this saga will end with Morgan going to Spurs, and us getting Townsend plus a few million on deadline day. They are just squabbling over how much the extra few million will be.
Really can not see the need for big money spend on a wide player of the calibre of Townsend (not saying he is good). Tadic will take one place and JRod will take the other side hopefully in just over a month. Long and Ramirez (if fit) acts as cover and we have some very good wide playing youths that need a few games and a little time like McQueen and Sims. Isgrove is not a world beater but is a good sub for the last 20 mins as he has boundless energy and a willingness to run at the fullback. I understand the need for squad depth, but unless a player like Memphis is available and willing to come here, I can not see a player like Townsend improving the squad Having said that we should not be playing the likes of Davis and JWP out of position on the right
Yes he has so far, but Spurs have only offered about 10 million so far. If they come up with an offer nearing Saints valuation, ie 20 million, then i dont think Koeman will stand in his way. Although he is an important player for us, it is the one area where we are strong, and have a fair amount of back up. At the moment we are in a strong negotiating position, as Spurs want Morgan, and being as Pochettino doesnt use wingers much, they will want to offload at least one of Townsend and Lennon. We obviously know this, and are supposedly in the market for a winger, so are are holding out for the best deal we can get.
So Koeman says "Morgan isn't for sale", yet that means he will sell for £20m? How did you work that out?
How many others havent been for sale this summer, and have left? I hope i am wrong, but i can see this being a deadline day deal.
I think the difference with Morgan, if we believe what's coming out of the club is that he's accepted the situation in a way Lallana & Lovren particularly did not.
It would be extraordinary in he left now, after what has been said, at least during this window. Just wondered how Romsey now feels. If my memory serves, you were quite concerned about our prospects this coming season a whole ago. Are you more optimistic now?
Why are people having a debate about Morgan possibly leaving..? Only today [ok, yesterday [Thurs]] in the news conference, Koeman was asked a question about Morgan leaving, because the question won't go away. Koeman answered, for us it has been away for us and stays away [paraphrasing his words] When asked if it was a new bid, he said, no, it doesn't depend on the offer. He will stay at Southampton. The pre-WBA press conference is posted elsewhere, but I'll make it easy. Just play it and find out [start at 5:15 if you don't want to wade]. This is as close to the horse's mouth as we can get. Not someone's mate who is in the know apparently. Not an intelligent listening/talking parrot flying through the appropriate office at the right time. This is the bloke next to Les Reed. He just might have a reasonable idea of how things are. [video=youtube;3kRibYbCLkc]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kRibYbCLkc[/video] That's pretty unequivocal. Yes, we've been let down before, but the intention is that there are no circumstances in which Morgan will move. Mind you, if Spurs were to add Vertonghen and Erikson to the swap deal plus dosh coming our way [ie, taking the shirt off their backs] then I would be hanging on for grim death. But we need Morgan, so no.
Morgan will not be leaving this summer...both Ron and Les have said this unequivocally. None of the 'do what is best for Southampton' stuff. And as pointed out, Ron repeated this on Thursday...saying the size of the offer is not a factor. Clear enough to me.
I agree. It couldn't have been made any clearer. Not sure I would be happy for us to spend so much on Townsend on the off chance we could improve him. If it was less it might be worth the risk.
