Why are people including some liverpool fans getting funny about signing ballotelli...for just £16.5m.

Seems like a no brainer to me.

They are about to sell to sell borini to sunderland for £14m so £16.5m for ballotteli is a bargain...would love him at whl

I'd love him in the premier league, not sure I want him at my club though. I agree that the price is reasonable for his talent, but there's a reason why it's such a good price...

I'm ****ing buzzing that we've nearly completed the deal for such a low price - with the right management he's a phenomenal talent. Rodgers is a great man manager so I have faith we'll see the best of Balotelli at Liverpool.

He's a match winner, like Suarez he has the capability to score out of nothing. I'm not comparing him to Suarez as that's just stupid, but he certainly has the wow factor.

Great business, especially if we sell Borini for anything from 10-14mil <ok>

Oh, it's a fantastic price. Honestly, in today's inflated world, I'm surprised he didn't go for twice that. Bit of a risk with his temperament though.

Five clubs before the age of 25 tells you everything you need to know about Balotelli, he will score a few goals but he is a liability at times.

Balotelli will also bring his girlfriend with him to Anfield.
That won't be the first Fanny to be seen in a Liverpool top, though. Not by a long shot.

Will be interested to see how much they're forking out on his wages. Wouldn't be surprised if he's on double what most of their other first choice players are. Could cause some unrest that, 200k/w was fine at City because everyone was earning silly money.

One **** leaves so Liverpool bring another one in to replace him. At least Balotelli won't get away with his antics(well at City he didn't anyway) and is unlikely to have the media protecting him after they tired of the "oh, Mario" line in his last season in the league.

£16mill certainly seems good value if true. He's a massive risk but he's also clearly very talented, he'll either do very well or cause a load of trouble and get shipped out again quickly, I can't see any in between as Balotelli's the kind of character that only seems to operate in the extremes.

For 16mil definately worth the gamble - If it all goes wrong, he'll have a reasonable re-sale value so the potential loss shouldn't be too bad.

When you consider - Welbeck (potentially) and Long went for slightly less, you have to consider that 16mil is potentially a bargain.

    Time will tell......

I also think it's a great price for him. It also suits you, since you have success getting questionable characters to perform on the pitch. And Balotelli strikes me as a flake, but not particularly toxic, like Suarez.

"Why are you carrying so much money?"

    "Because I'm rich."

I don't think he would have much resale value unless you got lucky and a rich club fancied taking a punt on him. There aren't many that would pay his wages if he fell out of favour at yet another club, especially if they have to pay a sizeable fee too. Similart to Ade, really. If he was on £50k a week we could've sold him last summer for £10mill easily but as it was only a couple of Turkish clubs showed even a little bit of interest in him. Reputation and wages can be big factors as can be seen by even the fee you guys are supposedly paying. It's not like you're getting some special deal, he's available at that price for everyone and there are a few other clubs that can afford him and who could do with a quality striker, yet they're not as tempted.

Long might not be the most gifted player but he's well suited to the clubs that buy him. At Hull he was wanted and 6 months into his contract so Southampton were always going to have to pay a fee to make Hull interested. Balotelli is unwanted at Milan and has a poor reputation so they were the ones having to get teams interested. Key difference.

Suarez's character never affected his performances on the pitch because despite all his bans, he never actually got sent off and his teammates always backed him. Balotelli has a very poor disciplinary record and doesn't seem to have the same loyalty Suarez had. 2 different types of trouble, Suarez would do ridiculous things to try and get opposition players sent off whilst Balotelli was as likely to start trouble with his own teammates as with the opposition.

If nothing else, it will be very interesting to see how it turns out. I think we can expect a honeymoon period for him but how long that lasts we'll have to see.

As rivals, we can only hope that the signing of Mario has a negative impact on Sturridge's form, who is probably the best striker in the league on the evidence of last season.

Yeah, that's a good point. Suarez does things that embarrass fans but keeps his teammates on side. Balotelli is more amusing than embarrassing from a fan perspective, but does have a history of alienating teammates and hurting his team by getting sent off. Well, whatever happens, it should be interesting.

Suarez's various incidents in a way kind of helped bond Liverpool FC together. The fans all bound together in their defence and admiration for him, as did the players themselves (e.g. when they wore those Suarez t-shirts). That unity helped them very nearly win the league last year.

Maybe the board are secretly hoping for the same again with Balotelli?

Surely Costa is the best based on last season's form.

Great striker but Aguero and RVP are much better than him.
