Newcastle united are closing in on a 5 million deal for Paris St.Germain striker Mevlut Erdinc.
Newcastle have been tracking the French-born, Turkish international, 24, for some time and are understood to have lodged an initial 5 million bid.
PSG, who paid Sochaux 8 million for Edrinc two years ago, ideally want their money back.
But French sources say they are likely to meet halfway with Newcastle in their valuation.
PSG beat Newcastle in the 10 million chase for Lorient's French striker Kevin Gameiro, but his arrival in the French capital has paved the way for Erdinc exit.

Meanwhile, new Birmingham boss Chris Hughton wants toon trio winger Wayne Routledge, striker Leon Best, and midfielder Danny Guthrie.

£6.5m would be about fair. <ok>

So long as we get a suitable replacements, as much as I actually rate them, I'd be happy for Hughton to sign those three players, wouldn't want them going anywhere else.

Strange source but hope it's true, need a striker like him so we have the option of playing a different system. Hope we keep Best as well, he is way better than Shola. The only of those 3 I'd sell is Routledge, but if a good offer (I wouldnt sell for less than 4m each, we dont need the money and they are good squad players) comes in then Best and Guthrie wouldnt be terminal losses.

I wouldn't mind seeing Rout going and maybe Guthrie, but I'd like if we kept best since we are short on strikers.

Liking the fact that everytime I hear a fee its getting less and less.

Does anyone get the feeling we wont be seeing anywhere near £35m spent

We'll definitely have to spend to replace Enrique, and supposedly after 2 strikers (one of which is Erdinc) which would push our money spent on transfer fees to somewhere around 20mil.

He can have Guthrie and Routledge on a double deal for 4/5 million.

He can;t have Best thought. Sorry Chrissy son.

I know people may complain if we dont see all the £35, but wouldn't you rather see us sign Erding for £5 than £10 million.

EDIT: I meant £5 million not £5. Wouldn't mind getting him for a fiver though.

Yeah of course, its more the number of players we eventually sign thats the main problem.

I would be delighted if we signed as many player as we need for only £10m

problem is would they be adequate quality.

I just don't want to see Ashley going for cheaper options if the money is there to buy top quality. eg missing out on N'Zogbia and signing Keith Treacy instead.
