Wasn't a fan of his until I saw Insomnia and One Hour Photo in quick succession.

A nice man, funny and a good actor.

RIP

"O Captain! My Captain!"
One of my favourite films. Starting to feel really old....
RIP

RIP - Me too, shocked, same generation, enjoyed his work as an actor, comedian and MC.

I was aware of his struggles in recent years with his inner demons and addictions and listened to a few good interviews where he very openly disussed this.

A lifelong manic depressive capable of great things when on a high but plunge to the depths of despair when on a low. Having had a family member suffer from this I know how difficult life can be for people who suffer from this. My thoughts are with his family. Such a wonderful talent. RIP...

Major shock great actor & funny man, never new he was suffering depression, greatly missed RIP.

I must be part of the small minority that never really tuned into his comedy. [The same applies to Spike Milligan, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore....]

I think a bad first date at the cinema watching the Fisher King had a lasting effect. Awful date. Awful film!

What a sad time for his wife and children.

The official word I was told was although he was a long time depression sufferer, it was because his impending divorce to his second wife was what did it. Apparently he was being taken to the cleaners and left with very little.
Again, this is what I was told today by a lady watching tv.

How much truth is in it? I'm not sure but either way, a very sad situation.

Sad when another human being suffers such torment to want to choose suicide as a way out. Commiserations to his family and those who cared about him.
DT - the person may mean nothing to you, but the tragedy of anyone taking their life through personal despair deserves better.

A tremendous loss. A man with a skill set rarely seen in the history of acting. To have the ability to make you laugh and cry, the memories live on. Such a loss. A sad sad day.

RIP Robin Williams

So many people I know are sad about this. A lot of people loved him.

My favourite film by him was What Dreams May Come, which is very relevant now as it contains the theme of suicide.
