    A few thoughts from me.

First like everyone else I suspect this aint the big name signing I was looking for, but, maybe 13 mil on a player lots rate is better than a big 20mil star that might not fit. After my concerns on Welbeck I will sit back and enjoy, with fingers crossed.

Second I think that if we do get him we will see those old heads coming in to back him up.

Third, 13 mil sounds a lot but if you pay 20mil for a young midfield player maybe 13 is fair for a young striker.

Fourth, like it or not we cant say the club aint sending out a strong message.

Certainly a show of intent from us but I really can't see him coming to us. Liverpool are going all out this season and seem to have very deep pockets. Whatever fee we have supposedly agreed with Ipswich will be met by some other club and he'll go there. Unless Quinny can work some of that smooth Irish charm on him, I really can't see this one happening

Hes got potential but if we buy Whickham then how much money will we have left for a left back, centre half, left winger, another striker?

I can see why Bruce mentioned the loan market yesterday.

So a big fee for potential, then we still need a proven striker.

Why not just take a proven striker, and give our own potential a chance.

Save the money for somewhere else. There's only a certain amount of money available, and we already have potential sat right there.

I've heard him described as a future Shearer (not too sure if I like this one but hey ho) .... Also, a stronger, taller Rooney.

Sounds like a proper handful to me, sign him up 13 million is decent business in today's market, can't see any reason he can't make the step up aslong as he's got good people around him to keep his feet on the ground .... (except when latching onto Larson's crosses of course!) :emoticon-0171-star:

He scored a good goal against us, but aside from the odd match I've not seem too much from him.

He seems like he shines against lads his own age (for England) and there must be SOMETHING there with this hype refusing to die down!

Andy didn't get anywhere near his potential until his 20th/21st birthday mind so you'll need to be patient!

My brother in London has just SMSed me to say that Liverpool have dropped out of the bidding and Whickham is coming to us for £13m. Don't know where he got the info.

My mate (a mag) watched him twice live and a few times on the box when they were in the 2nd division. He rang me up the first time he saw him and said he was the closest thing he's seen to Shearer for years. This lad is not easily impressed either so I took it upon myuself to watch him closer.

He is very raw and young still but you can see the strength and power he has got already and although not prolific in fornt of goal, I think he maybe ready for that step up. We'd be a good team for him to be fair and he would get his chance to play. I think if he did really well, he would attract a huge money bid from the top clubs in another 2 or 3 years.

Gyan, Wickham, Noble (may loan out for 6 months) and Won with one more 'big name' striker to come me thinks?

This lad is a far better footballer than Caroll and by a country mile. Caroll is effective with his size but isn't very mobile. This lad Wickham is fast for a big man and very, very skillful. I can see why my mate likened him to a young Shearer.

Well on that basis, sounds like it's best for all parties involved that he becomes a SAFC player . Surely, he'll get a decent amount of games for us opposed to a Liverpool or Spurs. I guess, impress for the next two seasons, bang a hat full of goals in getting plenty of premiership experience and as you say Cest one of the bigger boys I'm sure will come knocking. We then get a tidy profit and praise for 'nurturing' his talents at a vital time. Win win situation for me or have I got the blinkers on?!

OK, according to TalkSport radio Connor Whickham has agreed terms with US.

Now I've been on night shift & had two bottles of vino but they have said it threee times now.

I'm gonna go to bed & when I get up I hope you lads have it confirmed.

I'm going to be ridiculously annoyed if he turns out to be a ****ing awesome striker. Well I think most clubs will be actually.

Bizarre fee though, considering someone like Sturridge would go for £15-20mill.
