But being a BBC journalist and thus having to conform to their standards and practices, his anti-Saints dickheadery is coming from someone judged to be a credible source, or it wouldn't be getting published.

To an extent, yes. But Ben Smith is not overly well-liked or respected by fellow BBC colleagues or other journalists who cover Saints closely.
