fletcher, young, valencia, hernandez and smalling are not first team players. Not sure why your having difficulty with this but none of these players are apart of our first team.

One must when those who are meant to be in the know... don't know...
So, rather than dodging the question...
Who would Janzuaj come in for? assuming he's not gonna be part of the back 5?
You have Mata, Herrera, Rooney, RVP? He ain't gonna play the DM/Holding role, that's likely to be Carrick, Fletcher (god forbid for you, Cleverly), or maybe someone like Vidal should you buy him...
So come on, who does he replace?

Has it ever entered your head that we are player 352 because we currently lack the players to play van gaals preferred 433 formation?

I mean we currently have 1 fit fullback, 4 fit wingers, 2 fit strikers, no reserve CB and 3 fit CM ( one of which is called cleverly ). Some are obviously missing due to the world cup. Others are injured.

januzaj comes in for Young on the left of a 442/441 formation. He players on the right of a front 3 for us.

I doubt 352 will be our primary formation, especially with our lack of cover at CB.

Maybe because of your inability to give a direct answer.

So that's RVP, Carrick, Januzaj, Rafael and Shaw added to De Gea, Evans, Jones, Herrera, Mata and Rooney. Which is a 4-4-2 which isn't the formation LVG plays.

How can I make this simpler...I want to know, given LVG's preference for a 3-5-2 formation, which players were missing tonight from your starting XI who would start (injuries aside) on the opening game of the season.

His preference is 433. Start over and try again <ok>

Oh and he played 442 for 3 years in Holland not so long back....

Right, so NOW we're getting somewhere. My first question was who was missing and what's your XI going to be. You could have saved us a full page of going around in circles by saying his preference was actually a 4-3-3 and just giving us 11 names <doh>

If you're got no reserve cb why play 3 at the back. Surely you play 3 cbs then have 1 spare.

If you have 4 wingers, why play a formation that has 0 wingers.

If only 3 fit cm's why play then all? Why not go 442 then you can get 2 of 3 cbs in, 2 of 3 cm's and 2 of 4 wingers.

You've completely contradicted yourself with those points <doh>

Well he's played 3-5-2 all tournament and has said he wants to play that way.

    The full strength team is:

    ------------De Gea
    ----Jones--Evans--Smalling
    Rafael--Carrick--Herrera--Shaw
    ------------Mata
    -----RVP----------Rooney

So that's two changes then, I know you started with Valencia but that's because of Shaws fitness.

We missed a Lovren, Lallana, Sturridge, Markovic and Flanagan.

Well that can't be right, we've been reliably informed by UIR that the United team was only 50% strength...

  11. Could have sworn UIR said the game meant ****all prior to kickoff...<whistle>

And if it's the 4-3-3 like he's stated:

    ------------De Gea
    Rafael---Jones--Evans-Shaw
    -------Herrea---Carrick
    -------------Mata
    Valencia----RVP---Rooney

So still only three changes still.

Manchester United: De Gea, Evans (Blackett 45), Smalling, Jones, Valencia (Shaw 8), Herrera (Lingard 78), Fletcher (Cleverley 45), Young, Mata (Kagawa 69), Rooney, Hernandez (Nani 69).
Liverpool: Mignolet, Kelly, Johnson, Skrtel, Sakho (Toure 74), Gerrard (Lucas 62), Allen (Can 62), Henderson, Coutinho (Peterson 77), Lambert (Ibe 62), Sterling.

Looking at the two lineups Peterson, Lambert and Can( new signings/youth),Ibe only a couple of full games under his belt and Lovren and Lallana missing shows we were well understrength compared to them, don't know how anyone can not agree tbf.

  14. That's not a bad side tbf, needs a CB or two though

I think UIR knows that too but is on the wind-up because his team won. He's spouting all kinds of crazy stuff today trying to get a bite.

Needs the complete back line replacing. (besides goalkeeper) Shaw promising for the future- but not really top-4 worthy yet.

    #1476
  17. Four new signings (Lovren, Lallana, Markovic and Can) didn't start, plus Sturridge, Enrique and Flanno are missing too. You can make a half decent side out of those players:

    GK
    Flanno - CB - Lovren - Enrique
    CM - Can - Lallana
    RW - Studge - Markovic

    #1477
  18. I like Shaw and Rafael (as a player), they just need competition for their places. Bit like us with Enrique and Flanno <ok>

I would hope so, given that most of those could be classified as first-team players. The only real question is which three of Gerrard, Hendo, Coutinho, Can and Lallana play in midfieled (I'm classing Lucas and Allen as squad players and not first teamers). Presumably the first three for now, perhaps with Gerrard being phased out and Lallana and Coutinho rotating. Sterling RW, Sakho or Skrtel CB and Migs in goal complete the first team. Johnson will probably start over Flanno though, or Flanno starts over Enrique (excluding new signings).

Looking it at that way, that's quite encouraging...
Add to that Ford, Sterling, Shako, Skrtel, Gerrard, Hendo, Lucas, Allen, Johnson, Lambert, Ibe, Suso (not including the likes of Agger and Toure, Coates either, 2 of 3 which will most likely be sold).
Plus the FBs we "may" sign and another striker, none too shabby...
