Maybe they're just making more questionable moves now then. (only joking every transfer is gonna be a hit)
I think you're looking for things which aren't there. One of the reasons I made the comment I made was because i'd prefer Redmond over Zaha & Young(for the reasons imp saint expressed). Surely we're all forum managers as fans. I like to hear opinions of players, especially those from abroad where i'm not familiar. So keep them coming
Maybe not from you but it's certainly a theme on here. Of course we're all forum managers and our opinions all mean nothing but it's part of the fun. Still, I promise (to everyone on not606) that if we sign Javier Hernandez I'll never moan again.
Nice goal today. I think people think you always need a presence upfront (Pelle) when good movement is equally as effective if not more effective over physical presence(in the box especially) Sadly I think we won't get him and the moaning will continue
I don't rate Redmond though. Think he is probably better than Zaha in that he is less selfish but still not much end product. TBH I would prefer Moses than those 3 and that shows how much I rate them because I'm not overly impressed by Moses either.......... ......however..we are Southampton and not one of the big boys. We aren't going to be persuading top top top players to come so we are aiming for the best of the rest. If the management think they can bring Redmond or Zaha in and improve them (and they need improving) then I'll trust them.
True, what they do carry is a threat, a bit of skill and a bit of pace. When we 1st signed Jay Rod and stuck him out wide I had serious reservations about whether he was going to make it. He looked a little lost, when he received the ball his head was down and he would often run into trouble, but every game there would be flashes. A brilliant turn, great acceleration. Eventually he became more and more consistent, gelled with his team mates, gained in confidence and had a great season. He would still run into trouble on occasion or scuff a shot so badly it didn't even seem to reach the goal, but he made great improvements. Whoever we sign we're likely to have to go through a similar journey. Lets hope Saints select the player with the talent but also the right attitude to improve
I'm not saying he is anywhere near as good nor anything like the player, but Jay's progress reminds me of Henry and C.Ronaldo in that he was played firstly as a winger and then confidence came in, scored more goals and will eventually move more centrally.
Provided Zaha cost us anywhere around £8-10m, took a wage cut, and changed his attitude and worked hard... I think he'd be an astute signing, adding much lacked pace and width. If Koeman can handle Ibra, Sneijder, VDV etc, he can surely take Zaha.
Nor do I. I don't even think he's much of a prospect. I think he has bags of skill but no working football brain. And what little that is functioning is so lacking in confidence now that he needs to slow down and be nurtured. Actually, thinking about it, we're probably the perfect club for him to prosper in. He needs Saints, but we don't really need him.
Talent is obviously the first thing we look for, but attitude is equally as important. It would be great to get a player from a top side who sees us as giving him another chance, but we don't need a player thinking he is Mr Fantastic who has fallen on hard times (aka doing an Osvaldo). It will be difficult this season...all right integrating a few players into a friendly settled squad, but bringing in a large number makes room for division and change in ethos.
