Hi guys

Know had a bit of a strop off the other day after not seeing the fun being poked but not in a very good place at the moment as some of you know.

Anyway not wanting to grandstand on that as I want to make a plea.

A good friend of mine who runs an independent dog rescue using her own funds has just had one of her dogs attacked and killed in Lynn area by a dog loose with no owner. It's not a registered charity as there are too many hoops to jump through with committee members, meetings, agms, minutes, audited accounts filed with charity commission etc. Every penny goes on the dogs welfare though. Food is paid for by the foster families not the rescue.

I wondered if anyone would be prepared to throw a few quid in the kitty for the rescue?

She's understandably absolutely devastated to lose an animal in such a horrific fashion.

I've gotten hundreds of pounds of prizes from local attractions to tombola off too, hoping Cromer carnival will let us do a tombola at car boot. I've got so many great tickets to local attractions to give away

I would hope a sensible person would give their money to a worthwhile cause.

Kids starving, the abused, the homeless, the disabled, refugees, human rights, enviromental issues, scientific research, all these causes and still people would rather save some unwanted, overpopulated pet so it can be kept in a cage.

Now that is both nasty and morbidly funny.

Rich - as a dog owner of 40 years, I can perfectly well understand the emotions involved here, I sympathise. There´s no place for owner-less dogs anywhere, unfortunately it´s more often than not the owner who´s at fault rather than the dog, and sadly, such is the warped logic of most countries, that it´s the dog that gets put down, while the owner gets a rap over the wrists, then goes out and buys another dog and carries on treating it in exactly the same way. Crazy!

People are free to give to whichever charity they wish. Are you saying they are worse than people who don't give a toss about anything? (a large number) Why not have a go at them?

I have given a home to countless dogs that were ill-treated in my lifetime, I don't keep them in cages. I give freely to other charities, I particularly feel for the homeless.

Anyway, I'm not fit to contribute here, so be it, keep wowing them old friend.

Firstly, how about you let people spend their money as they wish? Who are you to tell them how they should be spending their money?

Secondly, what would you prefer to see then? Dogs to remain with their owners who mistreat them and leave them to die? I think their lives will be a lot worse if they are left to starve or be beaten

To some people the sight of a homeless animal is as heart-wrenching as the sight of a homeless child, there´s certainly nothing wrong or odious if they happen to feel that way, and want to try and do something to help.

Feeling sorry for a dog is one thing, putting it ahead of human tragedy is another.

I'm not telling them anything, just my opinion of those that do put dogs ahead of others. In the grand scale of things, I think dog charities get far to high a profile.

The dogs should be put down with the owners given massive fines.

So a dog should be put down for arbitrarily being brought up in a home with bad owners? Doesn't seem fair. Especially when you consider many of them go on to be adopted by new owners and lead perfectly happy lives. You are exaggerating, as well, about the conditions they are kept in at rescue centers.
