Why do people use dramatic words like "ripped apart" - genuine question?

4 first teamers have left because they wanted to leave Saints, and we've banked some large sums.

It's not ideal but better out than in, if they don't want to be part of it.

Problem is not so much with players leaving for such large sums it seems transfers out is happening a lot faster than transfers in...

Well he was wasn't he? Must've been on the bench for majority of league games (don't have and cba to find the actual number), so this makes him a fringe player at least I would say. Agree about a youth player potentially stepping up to fill that gap, but would still think that about 9 new players should be around the figure we should be looking at. We already have 2 and something like 1xGK, 2xCB/LB, 2xW, 1xAM and 1xST. Maybe throw in a new CM aswell if Morgan leaves, but I really like the look of Reed and JWP, so I think we could get by with them and see how we feel next summer.

I think we will not bring in that many. Too many players will take too long to gel. Think we will bring in a few more, then maybe 1 or 2 in jan.

I don't think if we bring new players in now or in 3 weeks. Competitive games are the ones that help teams improve.

Agree with you to a point, but to put it in a bit of a context, when we were promoted to the Premiership in 2012 we brought in 8 players that summer I think (Gazza, Clyne, Yoshida, Davis, Ramirez, Rodriguez, Mayuka, Boruc) then Forren in January, we hadn't lost any of the first team players from the previous season that we wanted to keep, just put upgrades where the management felt necessary. I think this summer is a similar scenario.

Even the most rational fan starts to get nervous when half the team gets ripped apart

I remain optimistic overall but if the team that finished 8th isn't being ripped apart then i don't know what is

Yeah, i personally think Chambers will stay for another season. I was just being dramatic (again).

I personally think Morgan will go and that's it for now. I have accepted it and now I just want some good news (players in) and I'll be happy again!

What about the £20m ish player we were looking at? I think Beefy heard a whisper about this?
Any clues anyone?

We won't buy anyone for £20m, because any player worth £20m+ is either already a Southampton player, or will be signed by a team in the Champions League (or Prem top 6).

We are in the £10m-£13m bracket max.
