My sister was the Head in a very challenging "last chance" school in Kent and she loved working with some of the most damaged and challenging children you could ever imagine. But she quit to become a deputy head at another tough school as she could just not deal with all the bullshit from the LEA and Central Government - her life just consisted of filling in forms and writing reports and not working with the children. She has now retired early!

Not British politics but I don't care.

We have a movement to join ESB and one to stay away. We also have a group of over 1000 people who wish to join Norway as one new fylker. The reasons are many but one is really stupid, we do not have enough top politicians. There are 320000 of us and do we need more or better politicians?

It's not a British politics thread AK so post away! By ESB do you mean EU? I thought the application had been withdrawn. If that is the case does it just mean some people will keep trying until you say yes?

What is a fylker exactly?

Thanks!

Ak - may I personally invite you to join the UK if those ungrateful Scots vote to abandon us :)

ESB is Evrópusamband is European Union.

Fylker are big areas like English counties, Noeway has nineteen and these idiots want Ísland to be the next one.

The people want a referendum for the ESB, the government promised referendum and then our prime minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson and then Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson, the foreign minister, both said we were stopping until a referendum is made. We want the chance to say his decision is right. The problem is we have people who wish to join and they will continue until they get what they want, because others want to stay out does not matter the continue. Like Scotland and Québec. If we join we can never leave.

Think your comparison is wrong there Ak- Scotland are about to prove that if they want to they CAN leave. However if Scotland leave they can never come back - and like Iceland I believe one faction in Scotland will keep on till they get their way - if they lose this time they will try again in 10 years until Scotland gets independence.

It's so sad that when we're on the brink of a world war with serious lesser wars springing up and with recent history in the balkans pointing at what can happen that the Scotts and English can't get on under the better together banner. Egos in politics are such a dangerous thing and Nationalists in SNP and EDL should be confined to the margins but it's human nature that results in these populist ideals coming to the fore with such a high quantity of hidden baggage thats only realized by the blind supporters of these parties when its too late. My own concern on the global stage at the moment is the arrest of the Bolivarian Narco Hugo Carvajal by the Dutch authorities acting on a US warrant. Carvajal is a leader within the Bolivarian revolution and travelling on three passports one of which gives him diplomatic immunity. I can see a military attempt by the Venezuelans to take Aruba and Carvajal by force resulting in Nato intervention to support the Dutch. Watch this space!!!

This is my direction exactly. The group who want the option with no return to the earlier position will not be happy until they have it. Ísland into the EU, Québec out of Canada and Scotland out of United Kingdom and these groups will try and try again and again, once we have entered the EU we will not be allowed to leave, as once Québec and Scotland leave Canada and United Kingdom they will not be allowed back. Although some unionist politicians might let both of them return.

If Scotland prove they can leave, they will go. The SNP politicians will not be happy until they have independence. Prime Minister of independent Scotland or British MP, which is better on a CV?

Even if entry to the EU or independence is gained and the countries are ruined as a result those who want these outcomes will blame someone else for the failings.

especially if they promise to wear Viking style helmets

I know what you think but víking helmets do not have horns. Imagine being in a small boat rowing with these silly hats. Everyone would be tangled together. Look at the Bayeux tapestry, that is how víking helmets were. I do not know where the horns idea came from.

I can understand your cocnern AK but I really don't see Iceland joining any time soon. It was my understanding that every country that wishes to join has to have a referendum (hence, for example, the reason Norway's not in the club). If that's the cae I doubt anyone seriously believe you'd come in. Obviously i'm no expert on the financial suituation but was under the impression it's improving. If that is the case then there's probably no earthly reason why you'd want to be in.

I hadn't heard of the issue with Norway before - that's too bizzare for words and i certinly can't see it happening any time soon.

I know Viking helmets did not have horns - it is a Wagnerian myth - but it is funnier that way.

Interesting Guardian article popped up on fb:

'The Tory-Labour duopoly – 97% of the votes cast in 1951, just 65.1% in 2010 – has been crumbing for 30 years. The looming breakup might finally trigger radical realignment and sweeping constitutional reform'

This brings me some hope.

Potentially damaging to our present duopoly with the lib-dems potentially in meltdown.... if the Scots go for broke we might have some real changes emerging in the UK political set up.
