He's in full force this morning on what's happening in Gaza and now Yossi Benayoun has just said Yossi Benayoun ‏@YossiBenayoun15 52 mins
@Joey7Barton mate things can never changed you have been stupid and you will stay stupid all your life..embarrassing .

Could get interesting.

I don't even want to look. It's a car crash waiting to happen. How can any sane person think that this is a good way to discuss it, via twitter? And what is talking about it going to do anyway?

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and Joey's opinion on this is not exactly too out of kilter with many others.

Naturally Yossi will defend his own but he should not do so by insults.

A complex situation with deep rooted historical and modern ramifications.

The fact is people are dying and that is clearly a bad thing si I'm with Joey in that it must stop. However I think it would be presumptuous of me to attribute blame to one side or another.

I don't think the complexities of the problems in the Middle East can be rectified or even summarised on a format that has a limit on the number of characters you can post.

Resentment on both sides, evil acts from both sides and, of course, there are innocents caught in the crossfire. I just can't see this reaching a resolution in my lifetime.

I think there're silly points of view on both sides of the fence. But I think talking about it on twitter or here is pointless.

Therein lies the greatest tragedy.

I hope you are wrong about the time to resolution Matt though I fear you may be right.

The danger with that conflict out there is that religion is attached. You'll find that right-wing Christian nut-jobs over here unflinchingly back Israel and their conduct because they believe a 3,000 year old text written by nomads in the Arabian desert prophesied that that patch of land was to be given to a certain race of people by the creator of the Universe. What happens to the people who have lived there in the intervening Centuries is irrelevant I suppose. I won't even mention the most important reason why these Christians are so hell bent on supporting Israel because that's where the real bat-sh*t crazy stuff begins. The US is full of these headcases but you'd be surprised how many of them are in our part of the World too.

Add in their Jewish and Muslim counterparts with their own conflicting infallible assurances from God into the mix and you've got a lovely cocktail of madness, murder and mayhem.

One would wish that these people were given medicine for the voices they're hearing rather than weapons of mass destruction.

... with their own conflicting infallible assurances from God ...

That is the problem with religion and conflict. All sides claim that God is on their side (and can prove it!) Then when one side "wins" they immediately start in-fighting with each other, each claiming that ... God is on the side of their particular sect and that their interpretations of whatever holy book are the only correct ones.

What really pisses me off about this forum is that sensitive subjects like this, used to be able to be discussed and debated in an adult and reasonable manner.
All views were mostly put across with respect and even though it could get lively sometimes, it was informative and interesting.

Sad that this is what it's become and I rarely post 'cos you just know where each thread is gonna descend into petty arguments and childish insults.

Mods, there's clearly only one way this is going. Can it be put out of it's misery?

I only usually respond to requests of this nature by the OP Willy unless of course there are inappropriate comments alredy posted . Nothing has been said on here to warrant closing this thread as yet. I don't want to come across as too heavy handed. Roller and I tend to be accused of over-modding when we stifle debate. I shall give this subject some thought and re-visit this thread in half an hour or so.

If anyone else wants this thread closed then feel free to say so. In the meantime I would ask anyone who chooses to post on this thread to keep on topic. We don't need this to turn it into a discussion on personal religious beliefs and whether a god exists or not. We've done that one.

I don't post on here but read it a lot. I only looked in today to see what was being said about Troy Deeney actually! Regardless, in terms of other team's boards I think yours is among the best as there's always a decent non footie related topical debate going. Keep it up i say.
