The recent thread about Kevin Keegan had me thinking about managers and their signings. Over the years we have had some really good and also some very bad signings so looking back from your time supporting Saints thinking about the managers that have come and gone which of their signings were great and the ones not so great for example

Dave Jones

Best signings

Marian Pahars
Chris Marsden
Paul Jones

Worst signings

Lee Todd

Right then over to you.

What?! Van Gobbel was awesome! I fondly recall watching us playing Liverpool and they were **** scared to go anywhere near him as he bumbled forward with the ball.

I used to like Van Gobbel. Another signing I liked I think it was by Souness was Maik Taylor but when Souness went Dave Jones brought in Paul Jones as his preffered choice.

We did go through what I thought was a golden run of keepers. Each one I was happy with and then we got a better one

Maik Taylor > Paul Jones > Antti Niemi.

Don't recall ofter that, but Niemi has been my favourite.

Lawrie Mac (since I supported Saints)
Best Signings
Alan Ball
Kevin Keegan
Dave Watson
David Armstrong
Mick Mills
Mark Wright
Peter Shilton
Jimmy Case
Matt Le Tissier ( Does Matty count as a signing?)

Worst

Still thinking

He also signed Ivan Golac, Phil Boyer and Ted McDougall and many more that I can't recall, one of his worst signings was probably Charlie [sick note] George.

Nigel

Best signing Cork

Worst - Tadanari

I believe Tadanari Lee had the knock down for Lambert in that 1-0 win away to Leeds, and scored that bullet against Derby. Also, he was a free transfer, therefore I think I'd put Forte as the worst signing as he cost money, and we then struggled to offload him with very little to show for it other than that MK Dons game.

For Nigel i was really pleased with the Davis signing. Premiership experience at that age and price was a fantastic bit of a business.
