Lucas was out most of the season, Gerrard played that role as a consequence.

You think we would've win the lge had Allen played instead of gerrard for most of the season? Don't fancy taking Allen for 20m do ya by any chance :D

Allen is a very limited player. But with Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling infront of the central midfielders that is fine. I'm looking for solidarity from the central midfielders with that much fire power in front of them. The title was lost from letting in too many goals. Henderson, Allen, Leiva would have brought solidarity. They are more naturally inclined to play limited team roles than Gerrard who likes to go wandering for personal glory. Gerrard doesn't fill me with confidence in a deeper role. What I'm saying is certainly debatable but it's my gut feeling.

I agree but Brenda isn't brave enough to drop him (or sell him) because the kop think he is some everlasting god. Roy doesn't dare to drop him because of the fallout in shirt sales with No4 on the back. FA only cares about money :) If they were going to take an ageing player to play the holding role it should have been Carrick or Barry. TBH I would have taken both of them and played them instead of Gerrard and Henderson but that would make no sense in terms of maximising profits. Gerrard brings a premium for advertising and merchandising. Hype wins
