Yeah, all major religions are taught in schools with a "this is what they believe" way of looking at it, but I think there's still a bit of a problem with Christianity being taught as "this is what we believe" or "this is what happened". That certainly was my experience in primary school, though of course the '90s was a fair while ago now. If there is still somewhat of a disparity between Christianity and other religions in this respect, then it's hard to see a conservative Christian changing that too much.
I can't remember how I was taught it at school it was too far back..... I was dragged to church every week and sunday school after; I was told off by parents for always wanting to wear my Saints kit to church and the vicar for continually asking about the dinosaurs and why they weren't in the bible. I was very young, but as they say ... out of the mouths of children...
Only 4 years ago I had a delicate conversation with my Dad (who still goes to Church every week) when he questioned a different religion and the 'wrong' behavior of those people... I told him they were just told a different story to the one he was told.
I really can't remember the answer. I remember asking because I went home to ask my parents. I think both they and they vicar brushed it under the carpet and probably told me not to be silly.
You have to picture that I was a fairly inquisitive child and always had my hand up, asking good/dumb/awkward questions
In my experience most vicars and priests are quite happy to say that the Old Testament, and the very start of Genesis in particular, isn't always to be taken literally.
Or ever. I have my doubts that the people who wrote it intended it to be taken literally.
In terms of actual politics, no, probably not. Unfortunately we're in the stage now where it's more about appearances than ever before as we near that time when the tabloid readers of this country decide our next government. They're putting more women in government, but they also protect *****philes. So conflicting. But can I vote for a man who looks like Wallace from Wallace and Gromit? I just don't know! Man, politics is hard.
