One of my best mate's from home topped himself 10 years ago. Going through a bad time of things (having been v. succesful), but persisted trying to find the answer in the bottom of a bottle then I get a call one Saturday morning to hear he had hung himself in his old man's spare bedroom.

Will never understand it, even having gone through some really rough and low points myself. His old man found him, the poor bastard, but handled it pretty well after the initial shock. His Ma lost it, and his sister a bit. I found it selfish but fkcu knows what was going through his head for things to get that bad. Life can be a fkin bitch, so just try and enjoy your life and the good times as much as possible. it makes the bad times more bearable...coz we all have em.

Know a few people that have given it a go and instantly regretted it and, touch wood, probably won't try it again.

Seen many attempts, some successful, through work and its obviously sad but I do find it a bit selfish when they do it in a public manner. That being said, they're probably not in a good frame of mind, depression etc so it can be understood.

I was actually stuck in traffic on Wearmouth Bridge when this happened yesterday morning. It happened just yards from where I was...I didn't actually see him jump, but saw people running to where it happened and looking absolutely shocked. I knew immediately what had happened by the looks on their faces. I checked that someone had called the emergency services, which they had, otherwise I would have called them myself.
The place where he jumped had a bunch of flowers there left by friends/family of a previous jumper. It is a theory of mine that leaving flowers to mark the spot of jumpers might actually encourage vulnerable individuals to do the same..

It's just an empty, vacuum in my life that I have no desire to fill. I stopped the hate a few years back and now it's just insignificant history.

It's often hard for people who have such close relationships with their fathers to comprehend, but I only say it as it is in my head. my mother since remarried and the guy is a total legend, don't consider him as anything other than my mate though.

    I'm really not though.

See pretty ****ty stuff and we just use humour to move on. It was obviously just a joke, on need to get all sensitive about it.

If you look at previous post I Know some people who have tried it and we make light of it..... what else are you gonna do, walk on egg shells around them.
It's **** that someone should want to take their own life and shouldn't need to happen.

my friend accidently took his own life over a chip shop, he wanted fish and chips and his parents could only afford sausage and chips, and kids being kids he had a tantrum and put a noose round his neck for attention, it went horribly wrong and he died.

we were only 8 at the time, sometimes a cry for help or stupidity can result in these outcomes.

I have a psychology A level (made suicide and football hooliganism my subjects) and imho most of the time the end result is a cry for help gone wrong

As ones who have borne the brunt of a bi-polar daughter and he psychotic highs and lows over some years wife and me know the signs which guide us on the way we try to see her through her issues. Over some periods it is a full time draining job but its their needs in the end.

Not happy she is mainly controlled by lithium but for some periods it is worth it.

Can I just add that after reading such very personal & heart wrenching stories, should anyone on here know of someone needing help, please ensure that they reach out & get in contact with those whom can provide support for the needing from trained professionals.

My home is living through the very real threat/s of it & I prey that together with professional help we can help rebuild their love of life once again. We have good days & bad days, last night was a good night. <peacedove>

    i attempted suicide in 2007

you just are not thinking straight, at the time, i'd completely ****ed everything up, everyday just felt like a pure nightmare, i thought everyone would be better off without me, it wasn't that i thought id be selfish by hurting people, i genuinely thought my family and friends would be happier without me, life felt utterly unbearable, it felt like torture, so i thought happy about the though of dieing, perhaps it was a cry for help, but i genuinely wanted to die, i tried to set up a noose, but there was nothing i could attach it to, i tried the bannister but i couldn't get a strong enough connection without it snapping, so i overdosed on a very very large amount of painkillers, i was only around 15 at the time and had an empty house

looking back, it makes me incredibly sad, all i would have missed out on, the hurt i would have caused, it makes me upset thinking about what could have been

anyone who reaches the point where they will choose to end their own life, is going through absolute hell, there is no rational thinking, no one can say anyone who commits suicide is selfish purely because anyone who is willing to choose to try and end their own life is not mentally rational and that's from my own experience, at the time all you feel is utter utter hopelessness, you can't even digress the thought of things will get better, it's a difficult one

it's a horrible situation and i really hope people find help

Making jokes regarding a local person topping himself just yesterday is pretty insensitive to say the least. As I stated, I was on the bridge when he jumped, so I wasn't in the mood to see the funny side of his comments..
