  1. How do you know Barca have agreed to pay the release clause?

Not true. Only way that would be true is if Barca met the release clause and were paying ti all upfront. Otherwise, there are negotiations on how the sum will be paid.

i should imagine everything is agreed behind closed doors, just a question of as soon as we have the players we are hoping to get, he's gone.

Yes it is not a buyout clause activation but that doesn't mean they haven't agreed to meet the fee specified in the clause and are just negotiating the installments (and initially the possible Sanchez swap).

Read again, I said "they'd be forced to pay the contract clause figure, with whatever terms are attached to it", which would either be cash on the nail or a defined schedule.

If there was no willingness to sell then there'd be no negotiations. e.g. Arsenal last summer, Chelsea and Costa this.

We're willing to sell- we're just not pulling our pants down and bending over. We're not just putting Suarez in the paper with a £50m OBO label attached.

Like everybody-else I don't but from the statements so far that can be attributed then it would appear that the figure has been agreed.

  7. Unless the conversation went further back than the comment I quoted, no you didn't. Otherwise, fair enough.

I know, hence the ongoing negotiations.

You're going to get a massive fee for him, but you'll not get his full buy out clause value imo. There's PR bollocks going on both sides here, the RS Echo talking about £75m, the Barca informed Spanish press as low as £58m, somewhere in between will no doubt lie the truth....

Is it right that Ajax have a 6.5% sell on btw?

Of course we are willing to sell when Barcelona say they are willing to meet our valuation (as stated in the clause)

There still need to be payment negotiations. Why would a release clause ever say "...and the buyer can just pay us whenever they feel like"

  10. Possibly, but you comment of "At this point Barca have agreed to meet his buy-out fee" would suggest it was 100% complete, hence me asking <ok>

  12. First I've heard of a sell on clause <ok>

    #812
  13. No it doesn't <laugh>

The bit highlighted is what I responded to. Barca agreeing to pay the buyout clause does not meant here would be no negotiations.

But yes, pedantic twat I am :)

Not heard anything about the sell on fee!

And... it could be £75mill- just not all in cash up front- hence the delays. We really don't know. No one does.

We're under no huge pressure to sell. If we don't... we get him for a few months next season and then sell him to Real Madrid in January once the transfer ban is over and he proves he can behave. Real and Barca were threatening a transfer battle until the bite (and even some time after the bite)... once the dust settles it wouldn't surprise me if Real show interest again.

You're well on with spending the fee mate, so I'd say you're committed personally.

As are Barca to buying him.

Rumours were £60m transfer kitty + money from sales. We haven't spent that £60m yet (close though) - and haven't made any sales. We're under no pressure to sell unless the sale benefits us.

The point at which any negotiation is at it's most fragile is just before both sides sign the document detailing what they have agreed. The classic is to say "well we're almost there - except for X" which really means "we've got a long way to go"!
