Gerrard is the best option for the holdng role and he could be for a few more years yet. His passing, control, vision, creativity and positioning are better than any ones. He is also a great leader.

People expect a holding player to be combative, gung ho and solid, but that is not Rodgers way.

Could help explain why we conceded 50 goals last season?

I thought Coutinho looked better his first season with us than his second. Maybe I just expected more from him after his brilliant start. He was very hit-or-miss last season... I'd like to see more consistency out of him.

Is Rodgers prepared to not give Gerrard an automatic starting role? If Can is better in the holding role than Gerrard, I really hope he is brave enough to make that call. (and I hope Gerrard is man enough to sit on the bench without wimpering).

We're back on Coutinho again with that XI... personally, based on last season, if I had to pick one; Sterling or Coutinho... I'd start with Sterling. (never thought I'd say that 12 months ago).

I rank Coutinho highly... but he has to get back on track again this season!

If he's not good enough for us NOW- I'm glad we didn't sign him in January...

Although... who knows, could he have been the difference between 2nd and 1st last season? (I suppose potentially we could have done worse)

Is Makovich a strinker or a winger?

1. Coutinho. I have to say he's still developing but if i were to single out one man capable of making the difference and stepping up to fill the gap about to be made in our team he's the guy. He's got the passing and vision but he's got to putt he work rate in every week and not fade.

2. I agree its high time as paisley would say don't let them age on your pitch. Gerrard must play from the bench. its high time to just say so. I question 18months ago why he played every 90 mins despite us falling away to 7th and now after a 2nd place the question is more urgent. If we want him to give anything he's got to give it ala mcallister, scholes or other veterans we can quote. Give us a good 25 games out of 50 say (38+6 cl + 6 cup) rather than a leggy 40 games or whatever.

3. we won 11 in a row. konoplyanka could never be said to have been any difference as its as easy to see us lose a tight game like west ham as he was in trying to fit in than claim say we'd have beaten chelsea or even drawn. we just don't know but we really got no injuries and lacked for nothing on our run... barring defensive ability. this coming seaosn its idfferent, we can't afford to see a moses type and aspas type again.

origi is a done deal? nothing yet on lfc website so keep watching this one.

the markovic fee seems to be growing hourly as the rags want to pump the story in the vacuum of when is suarez going?

And once the beeb quote an anecdotal fee everyone copies it. Eg Lallana was acctually 23 million including performance add ons (according to echo) but BBC salford prefer saying it was 25million upfront

I dont think so.

For half the season Lucas held. Or Lucas and Gerrard side by side which was awful.

A lot of our goals conceded came from crosses and set pieces.

Crosses which would never have been allowed to be made if Enrique wasn't injured (absolute beast at not being beaten) and Johnson wasn't crap.

You won't be surprised to know that #bbcsalford ignore add-ons in their transfer fee for Shaw though

So it looks like we are defo holding out for the full amount for Suarez and that it's just the amount of years they pay it over that is up for disscusion.

I'm glad of this, we deserve a shedload of cash for the little ****er.

#AFC close to completing Debuchy & talks ongoing for Sanchez. #LFC unlikely to pursue AS (Suarez set to be straight CASH) but Juve very keen

The fee for Sanchez is like the fee for Suarez, inflated

If we can get a player cheaper on less money but hungry for success great.

Also Ashley cole. Thank f. Lambert is bad enough at 32 adding to toure who should be off but cole really doesn't fit the bill

Experience fine but a guy has to play for 100k
