Liverpool Echo: Luis Suarez is on the brink of leaving Liverpool FC after Barcelona agreed to pay his release clause of around £75million. The structure of the deal still needs to be thrashed out but the ECHO understands the transfer could be completed as early as next week. Reds chief executive Ian Ayre informed the Catalan giants that the Uruguayan striker wouldn't be allowed to leave for less than the release clause in the lucrative contract he penned last December. After accepting that Liverpool wouldn't budge, Barcelona officials have now vowed to pay the asking price. Liverpool would have accepted Barca attacker Alexis Sanchez plus around £45million for Suarez but it looks set to be straight cash. The Chile international is reluctant to leave the Nou Camp and is still considering his options. His representatives have spoken with both Liverpool and Arsenal among others.
I'd prefer £90m. But £75m is £12m better than £63m His clause isn't going to be above that by the sounds of it
£75m, we could buy 2 Andy Carrols with that. I'll have to change my name now, pretty sure I've hit the 5 name change limit though. Bugger
The papers say £63m. Whatever the price though, we should be glad to see the back of him. Good riddance. He had no respect for the club, for the managers and fans who went out of their way to support him. We just couldn't go on relying on someone who has let us down so often and really so selfish. The way he engineered his departure this time and he tried last summer was really unforgivable. Let's use the money we get from him to rebuild a top class team.
It's purely speculation until we find out formally.... Remember that one Spanish tv channel jumped the gun with euros. All the usual hacks had no idea and with a story this big didn't want to look stupid The echo hasn't posted anything really new so I would not put faith in it either We know now neymar has a broken back so the fee really will be paid
Sanchez has had a good World Cup. But I am weary of buying players on World Cup performances. We all know of quite a few examples of players who flop in the premiership after performing in tournaments for their country.
I doubt you'd get the £75million in one go up front. Barca still owe us money from the Fabregas sale and he doesn't even play for them anymore.
