Table updated, nobody predicted the correct score-line for our cup final. But loads of people got 5 extra points for predicting our FA cup success in the cup competitions predictions.

Yes, Congratulations Oxo - a sixteen point gap to second. Impressive. Here's t next seasons effort....

If input on a new points system is appreciated, I would suggest that we move onto something that doesn't reward lucking out on the correct scoreline so much, and actually gauges how well/badly the person predicted the team would do against the opposition throughout the season.

I would go with:

2 points for the correct result

and

+ 2 points if you get the correct scoreline (4pts), or

+ 1 point if only the goal difference is correct (3pts total)

If you get the correct scoreline (4pts):

+ 1 if you get half or more of the correct goalscorers (I have no strong opinion on this one, it can be like the old one...)

With the current system even if we were Man Utd., a guy who only predicted wins but got the most correct scorelines through the season would still win it. (which isn't very realistic)

I'd still have won <whistle>

We're definitely up for input into changing the scoring, but I quite like the bonus for getting the correct scoreline.

The idea of being able to get a big bonus of points for getting the scoreline right and predicting the scorers means that people can leap up a few places in just one go, which kind of makes it exciting.

But yes, let's have your ideas and we can adapt it for the start of next season

p.s. you can make it as complicated as you like because SJW has to do all the adding up <whistle>

how about
4 points for a win result correctly predicted.
2 points for a draw result correctly predicted.
1 point for a loss result correctly predicted.

bomus points to be added would be
correct score line +3
correct goal difference +1
correct named goal scorer +1 for each correct name

so for a correct and exact prediction for a result of 2 - 2 and giroud to score both would result in draw 2 points plus bonus points of correct score line +3, correct goal diff +1, correct named scorer +[giroud x2] so total points 8.

so for a correct and exact prediction for a result of 3 - 0 and giroud to score 2 and ramsey 1 would result in win 4 points plus bonus points of correct score line +3, correct goal diff +1, correct named scorer +3 [giroud 2 ramsey 1] so total points 11.

this way the people who make the best predictions would get the most points rather than just picking same result every week.

PS is that complicated enough for SJW to work out, or has he disappeared for ever.

Where is the logic in that though? People already predict Arsenal to win 99% of the time. Predicting a loss and a draw is a much more of a risky bet that should be rewarded.

This would make it even worse.

I think what should be corrected is the overt reliance on correct scorelines.

it was done in tongue in cheek hence my comment PS is that complicated enough for SJW to work out, or has he disappeared for ever.

Dunno. You can maintain the new prediction league thread with the calculations that you suggested if you want <whistle>
