The club have told Ash's agent that Swansea will not sell Him, and it appears a deal for a contract extension is close. Good news all round.

I really hope so. I Think he is great at the back. Prone to the odd lapse in concentration, but tell me a Centre half who doesnt make a mistake. As i have said rather keep the player we know who fit for us and add to compliment them.

Plus he's on board with Monk's appointment, so harmony and cooperation going forward.

or Moralee's is trying to push for a move ( quite likely ) hence yet another very public statement from him

SWANSEA City have told Ashley Williams he’s not for sale as talks over the defender’s future continue.

Williams has been the subject of sustained transfer speculation this summer as his current contract expires in 12 months time.

Arsenal were linked with the Wales skipper, while Sunderland are understood to be preparing a second approach after a £4 million bid was knocked back.

Swansea could look to cash in on their asset now or risk losing him for nothing a year down the line.

“At the moment there have been some bids coming in. Swansea have rejected those because they think Ash is important — everyone’s clear on that,” said Williams’s representative Jamie Moralee.

“Swansea are very clear that Ashley is not for sale. Whatever offer comes in, he is not going to be sold.

“That’s the option they’ve got and we’re comfortable with that. We respect that because he’s their player, he’s under contract.

“We’ve got to the point where they don’t want to take an offer so hopefully we can sign the right contract at Swansea — that would be Ash’s ideal scenario.
“Ash is very professional and he will continue to give Swansea everything he has.”
Moralee has held regular conversations with Swansea about Williams’s future over the summer.
But he expects things to gather pace now pre-season preparations are under way. “It’s like that in football, sometimes things take a little while to happen. Ash is quite relaxed about things, we’re happy to wait to sort things out,” said Moralee.
“All three options are still there. Ash could sign a new contract, he could leave for nothing in a few months time or Swansea could take the money and everyone could part ways.
“But Swansea have said he’s not for sale so that narrows things down.
“I’d like to think that Swansea do not just want to let Ash walk away for nothing. But there is a danger that could happen.
“If Ashley signs another contract at Swansea he will probably end his career there. I’d like to think we can reach an agreement because that is Ash’s preferred option.
“Ash is back in training now, he will talk to the manager and chairman and we’ll be having talks at management level.”
Sunderland are reportedly ready to up the £4 million they offered for Williams last month. And Moralee insists they are not the only ones tracking the 29-year-old, who has spent the last six years at the Liberty after signing from Stockport.
“Sunderland have made it clear that they will just keep bidding and bidding. They want the player and I understand that,” he added.
“Ash has had this sort of speculation around his neck for the last five years so he’s used to it. That’s because of the performances he has put in. He is probably one of the top eight British centre-backs in the Premier League.
“There are two or three other clubs that are monitoring Ash’s situation, but different clubs operate in different ways.
“Sunderland are trying to get their business done early, while others prefer to wait. It’s too early for a big decision, but the transfer window has only just opened. Hopefully things will move along in the next week or so.

New he wouldn't be sold, it is just the London clubs and media at it as usual, same every season, all designed to try and unsettle things at Swansea City, but Huw Jenkins is well up to the task, well done Huw, what a chairman............<ok>

Although I did notice a bit of excess on Ash on the 'pinch an inch' test in the Day 1 pics :)

He says having the body of a god!

Whats Huw done ? as Ash is under contract I can't see how he can broker a move , unless you think Huw has told Williams to sign or f**k off next year then I would agree with "well done Huw "

We are having a great transfer window under Monk, looking forward to this season, it surely will eclipse last season's night mare!

The question that needs to be answered is what is his likely degradation path. Ash is not the fastest, nor the tallest, nor the best jumper among center-backs in the league. These limits are going to be exposed more and more as he gets older. His lack of energy at the end of the Southampton game on their winning goal I found troubling. So is he worth more than a year by year extension. Does anybody have any idea what contract term HJ might be putting on the table. How much do we want to pay to have an aging Ash sitting on the bench while a younger player (e.g. Amat, Bartley or possibly Caulker acquisition) comes and assumes the leading role - which ideally is what should be happening.

Do we really want to set up another scenario where a veteran seems to be "owed" a place on the non-playing staff.

Do you actually see him as Coach/Maanager material. I am not so sure myself.
