You have a point, I think some players will want to be more confidant that we can easily acheive top four or more every year before wanting to come to us, some players will know about Liverpool and understand the club more and choose us over Arsenal but some will look at recent history and think that Arsenal would be the better move.

If the rumours are true about Sanchez I'd rather us look elsewhere, we want players that have a desire to play for us.

<ok> Glad you took that as intended and not as a WUM.
Personally in terms of recent history there isnt much between the two clubs, but for me Arsenal edge it in the fact that they have the more reputable manager in Wenger (although BR's profile will have risen with last years performance) and the fact that they are in London.

Firstly, alright Dave lad, good to see you back mate <ok>

Hunter was on TS this morning saying that Sanchez didn't fancy the move, as he has plenty of other suitors, notably Juventus.

He said that it was therefore a cash deal being discussed and the negotiations were advanced.

I wouldnt put Liverpool on any higher plinth than Arsenal to be honest mate, just my opinion.
Arsenal if anything would be higher, they have been harder to remove from the top 4 than genital warts, they make it every year.
Liverpool have risen from midtable to the CL last season, but without your talisman, its a big question mark as to whether you will remain imo.
Arsenal will be there, as they are, every year. And they have won a trophy more recently too.

Agreed in that the factors which play the biggest role in a player's decision are probably money (not sure how Arsenal and Liverpool compare here, but don't think either of us are the biggest payers), success (although we finished higher in the league last season, Arsenal have consistent Champion's League qualification and Liverpool look set to lose their best player. The FA Cup also helps, but not sure how big a factor that will be for a foreigner) and location (quite simply, London is far mor glamorous for a foreigner than Liverpool). In other words, I would think that Arsenal would be ahead. That's what makes it so much more important to sell the idea of Liverpool to Sanchez, and that's one thing that Brod seems to be good at. He speaks Spanish as well, doesn't he? Does Ayre? Wenger does. Speaking to Sanchez is his mother tongue would help. Sounds like a little thing, but it could make an impression.

This as well. Wenger is known and respected throughout the game. Rodgers is simply too new at this stage to have the same kind of pull. If we had won the league last year, that would have increased his profile a lot though probably.

Goons rumoured to be offering a whopping 130k pw, we wouldn't get near offering that for Sanchez' first season in the PL

But with the kind of money we have top class players are available we don't have to make it Sanchez or nothing.

Agree with this. Sanchez had a good world cup and a decent season, but he seems very inconsistent at club level, doesn't look like the same player when he's not playing for Chile. He might be awesome in England, but who knows how well he'll perform on a wet day in Stoke until we actually see it.

I'm not going to slag Ayre here but if it's now purely about convincing Sanchez to buy in to our vision surely it should be Brendan talking to the player not Ayre?

I posted exactly the same thing yesterday. When it comes to the player side of the negotiations, Brendan has the people skills. Ayre doesn't.

I think Ayre needs to say Sanchez has to be part of the deal or **** off.

If we end up with say £75mil - who the **** are we going to buy?

Sanchez to Arsenal is just rumours at present - get Rodgers over there to talk to Barca and Sanchez FFS. Ayre is a nob head in situations like this.

Nah. If he doesn't want to be here then I don't want him.
If Goofy's gone for sure then we take the readies and use it to buy someone who actually wants to play for us.

Anyone who's more concerned with his location off the pitch than on it hasn't got his head in the right location anyway, imo.

Surely that's around what you'd expect to be paying for a player of his rep/calibre. He's probably on something similar now.

Purely footballing reasons. <ok>

Wasn't meant as a dig. If two clubs of similar footballing stature (?) were in for me and one was in a more glamorous city and was offering more money, I know which one I'd choose.

If this is really a stumbling block (and to be fair, the recent reports suggest that it isn't), then what I don't get is, given that they seem set on Suarez, why Barcalona don't just take the Arsenal money and stump up the extra for Suarez. Are ours and Arsenal's bids for Sanchez really so far apart that Barca aren't prepared to cover the difference?

With what we've reportedly been paying Suarez, then we could offer him that and have a bit left over for some more Bics.

Only good thing if it's a cash price already agreed but being kept quiet is that any other major signings need to be tied up quickly.

Two reasons I don't think Sanchez is coming:

1) too many of us want it. It's a rule that when that occurs one of our rivals nips in to get them at the last minute. Then we whinge about other clubs being better at it than us, then the player does nothing for that club and we all laugh and say "phew"

2) Sanchez is a red herring for other transfer negotiations, if they think the bulk of the Suarez money is being reduced for Sanchez they'll not try to cut our throats with the player we are trying to buy.

Hopefully we'll get all the players we want very quickly now.

Insanely positive outlook i know but sure better than being depressed about it all lol.....

Yep. We need to have players who want to play for us voluntarily , not with a gun pointed to their head. Or stuffed with so much money that they can't refuse.

We should look for players with potential who could do a job for us medium to longer term. <ok>

With that criteria it makes Arsenal sound more attractive than you.

Although I suppose the advantage of buying from Barca is less risk of the player saying it's always been a dream to play for Barca when trying to engineer a move a year down the road......

Am I the only one that's not upset at the thought of losing Luis?
Don't get me wrong, if we could keep him, then great, but that ain't gonna happen.
So take the money and move on.. Invest wisely and DON'T do a Spurs...
We've a great crop of young players, skillfull players, hungry players to continuing building on..
A front six of..

---------------- Gerrard ----------------
---- Henderson -- Lallana ---------
------------------ Ford -------------------
---- Sterling ---------- Sturridge ------

Doesn't look too bad in my eyes, better bench compared to last year, Lambert, Allen, Can (if/when he signs), Lucas, Suso...
Doesn't include the likes of a few decent players we will no doubt sign when Luis goes..

if we add shaqiri, maybe... we don't have a "game changer" like suarez so we'll be a lot of goals down.

i'm not upset though... i said all year enjoy it while it lasts and its over. he's out for 3 months so we must sell
