decent price. just over 50% more for a player several years younger and with similar attributes. not the same, but hopefully more appropriate ones and ones that are replaceable if/when he's unavailable.

From what i've seen a more realistic role model for Gallagher to base his game on than Rickie.

Why do people have an issue with Pelle? I know he plays in holland and that is the only place that he's been any good, but it's a good record and maybe Ronald can get the best from hin

Largely because big-lump strikers who were only ever good in Holland (particularly when the transformation was in his late 20s) tend to flame out pretty majestically when facing tougher competition.

We've had this discussion a thousand times. I'll save us all the hassle and get it over with.

"He isn't very talented and only really scores based on awful defending"
"scores a lot though doesn't he?"
"so did afonso alves and Jozy altidore"
"didn't people say the same things about Lambert?"
"no, his general play is much better and Bristol Rovers fans were unhappy to see him go"
"stop being so negative I'll trust our manager"
    "okay"

6 and a half isn't really that much of a risk.

I'd laugh if he score 20 this season. <laugh>

It isn't a huge risk financially, it's more that we're likely only signing two strikers in any instance, and he's going to be one of them.

I'd laugh if he transformed into a unicorn and showered the pitch in rich nougat candy. I'll be pleasantly surprised if his goals scored this season exceeds the millions spent on his fee, really.

Quite happy that the fee is around £6.5m. Low enough fee that the risk goes down... but I still hope we'll sign another striker.

And several other people, including feyenoord fans (though I get that by making us seem a minority it's easier to disregard). I'm tired of saying it too but every time someone pipes in with "why do people hate him cause he scores lots" it's only fair to answer.

VI said it was 8m euro with the fee rising dependent on him hitting a certain goal target across his contract length with Saints.

    Lets just wait and see.

We have to trust Rons judgement. Plenty of dosh to buy more.

If it's £6.4m, I'm cool with it. I have a fair few reservations but think Koeman deserves a bit of trust and hey, I'm happy to have Ronald here too.

More though and I might be a little concerned, given the guy's age and track record.

At the end of the day though, we all want him to succeed with Saints and what goes before is by and large, irrelevant.

Err, then, fantastic? Of course I hope he's good, why are you making it seem like I don't?!

I particularly dislike the Pelle-Lambert comparison. Aside from the differences in their all round game, we're not buying Pelle to play in the same league he scored goals in.
