What's everyone's thoughts on the changes being brought in for the 2015 season? http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2014/6/16003.html From what I've read it appears that in effect the safety car is being axed, as there will be standing starts for restarts (what will be the point in having the safety car, they may as well red flag the race instead?)
I think most people think that change is odd to say the least! Will be interesting if they actually go through with it. Other than that, most rules seem like a way to pretend they're reducing costs, without actually addressing the major costs in the sport. Every little helps I guess, but it doesn't feel like a significant enough change for the backmarkers.
Haha true. But thinking about it, Kimi is most likely if Ferrari insist on not designing the car around both drivers. We all know what Kimi can do in a silver car fine tuned around him. Ferrari could pull out. Rumours of a LMP1 return are increasing and I could see Fernando joining Webber there. Nico H to stay at FI forever, and Vettel to maybe try Mercedes? Vandoorne to replace Magnussen. With Button out. No idea what Lewis is thinking of doing. It's silly season so I can say these things haha.
The safety car will still be deployed to take the cars round the track, however, when it comes in the grid will reform and then the restart. We may well see the SC being deployed willy nilly for show biz purposes. Will all the cars pit and change tyres for the restart?
http://sniffpetrol.com/2014/07/01/those-rejected-f1-rules-changes-in-full/ Last week F1 bosses announced the approved regulation changes for 2015. Here are the proposed new rules they DIDN’T approve. Other teams to let Ferrari win one race of their choosing, if they agree to stop whining. One item made by each sponsor must be carried in the car. Drivers forced to drink the entire bottle of podium Champagne and then caper about in an amusing manner (except Raikkonen who may ask for another one). All podium interviews to be conducted by Gerhard Berger, Niki Lauda or anyone else who suffers from Austrian Tourette’s. TV presenters doing grid walks allowed to carry and use weapons. Tyres cannot be put in warmers but can be left next to a radiator for a bit. Tyre choices; soft, medium, extra-hot, cheese & onion Something involving Timo Glock. Maldonado to race separately on a Monday when everyone else is safely back home. A load of **** about a standing re-start after a safety car.
No 2016 thread so chew on this folks! @McLarenFamily: Bernie Ecclestone has apparently said that Monza will be dropped after 2016... Uhoh.
Standing starts after safety cars, straightforward, yes? http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/114737
Thats the only way Bernie knows how to say "update your corporate facilities" Just think of all those cheap seats that could be turned into fancy boxes where no one actually watches the race
He tried that with Silverstone many times, even to the point of claiming deals with Brands Hatch and Donington had already been done. No way will he drop Italy from the calendar (Monza has been dropped once before in 1980 in favour of San Marino). Ferrari fans will riot.
Lovely and clear that. What's most annoying is that this is pure and simple manipulation of the race. It looks like it increases the number of laps under the safety car.
