At field level they say its 37, and the humidity is high which as I know in NY, makes and enormous difference in the way it feels.
Not if they play the matches in closed air conditioned stadiums, which they certainly have the money to build. Most likely it will be the fans travelling to and from the matches that will be suffering from heat exhaustion, although mass transit, possibly directly into the stadiums, will also have a/c.
Better off playing in the open than freezing your b*llox off with AC, and catching all them bugs. Bit of heat is good for you, and the sun gives you Vitamain D.
Only watching this vaguely, while I am doing other stuff. However, as all the teams I think will do well are falling rapidly - Italy, Chile, and doubtless Colombia next - get your money on Mexico. With only 2 games a day I have no idea why one has to kick off when the sun is at its highest. The 8.00pm and 11 pm UK time kick offs should have been kept - also better for the TV ratings, USA v Germany got lower viewing figures than the previous two US games in the States because it was a 12.00 noon kick off on a working day. There you go, great goal.
Sept - Dec 1975 as 21 yr old I worked in the vicinity of Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia conducting oil exploration seismic surveys (land & shallow marine - hovercraft operations), and the heat at times just took your breath away. We lived in camps with air conditioned trailers for housing and only worked 6:00am - 12 noon most days due to the afternoon heat. The food was excellent, prepared by ex British army chefs from Yemen, served in an open mess tent.
I got off a bus many years ago at the Sandfire Flats Roadhouse in Western Australia (many, many miles north of Perth) It was approaching 50 degrees and even the locals said it was 'bloody hot today'. It hurt your lungs to breathe and the place was swarming with huge, persistent flies. I'd been sat on the bus for hours, but was delighted to get back on.
Heh, that's why you didn't get the first one robben. I moved house in the hottest day about 7 years ago, while it was only about 35c, spending many hours lifting and carry made it feel like more, I had to use a phone box after and it was literally suffocating, I was struggling to breath and I had to give up. God knows what the temp was in there but it wouldn't surprise me if it was 50-60c.
