O.k. I am describing a football team. They entered for one World Cup and one Olympic football tournament. Despite going out of the World Cup in the initial qualifying rounds they were invited as honorary guests to the final and joined in the victory celebrations of the winners. Nearly all of the players came from the same club side - a club which still exists and was once denied promotion despite finishing first in the second division of the league they were playing in. In the World Cup they played in one of the only matches in history where the national anthem of the referee was played. Who am I describing ? In the 1954 qualifying tournament they played Germany, and, because the Saarland had no national anthem and did not want to use the French one the anthem of the referee (Dutch) was used. F.C. Saarbrucken won the French 2nd division 1948-49 but were not admitted into the first division.
