There is no defence for him, It was just plain stupidity and he needs the book thrown at him.

saying that I wouldn't be surprised if it was a way to engineer a move away from this country though.

I suspect, Cromer, that as a loanee to Norwich for a whole season, your preference for Forster in goal over Foster is a little biased. All I would say is this: Foster had very little to do in the game against Costa Rica, but when he was called upon he was faultless. His first half save, tipping the ball onto and then over the bar was sensational, he came off his line to catch crosses and when diving to save another shot, he caught the ball - now there's a rarity."

He was able to do all the above because he moved his feet. Joe Hart take note. Problem with Foster is that he is so injury prone. But on the evidence I have seen he is a better 'keeper than Hart.

i thought foster played quite well but frankly, anyone who refuses to play for their country is setting themselves up to be abused and no matter how biased anyone on here comes across, looking objectively, foster should not have been selected to go to the world cup ahead of a keeper who had been involved in every single one of hodgson's squad, sitting on the bench patiently, yet had only one cap. ruddy was committed to the cause and desperate to go. foster wasn't and it was a travesty for big john that he got dumped for a keeper who in my opinion isn't even as capable as him, which should be the main reason anyway.

Yes I was really pleased that the Bubbles went through with the country being a bit down in the dumps.A great start to Argentina v Nigeria .That equaliser was sublime. In the only place it could go in and curled around the keeper's hand.

Obviously I can't speak for Cromer, but Foster's age for me was the main reason I wouldn't have played him. At 31 and firmly second or third choice, what's the point giving him the experience? There's very little to choose between him and Forster, except one is 5 years younger. If we're looking ahead to the next world cup, Hart will most likely be first choice, then ideally you'd take Forster/Foster/Ruddy as experienced back-up, then take a youngster (none of those 4 will be under 30) for experience. It would have made much more sense to blood Forster as he'll still be in his prime in 4 years, rather than Foster who may already be past his.

But Foster is Roy's old mate, so of course he got the start. Once again, there's talk of picking players on merit, but our national team is still picking players to be nice, rather than because it's actually worth it. Gerrard, Lampard and Foster shouldn't have had any involvement in the Costa Rica game.
