The comment regarding referees being professional is double edged. They are inasmuch as they receive payment for refereeing or assisting each match they cover, but speaking as a qualified and active referee at local level, although now long in the tooth, so far as I am aware only those included within the premiership select group are full time, i.e. they are on a retainer and fully employed by the FA.

The rest, and whilst I'm not 100% sure, including championship officials downwards through the leagues and non league, are part time and by definition therefore, have to integrate their refereeing within their other main employment. They do however, get paid for refereeing.

I was talking, some years ago now, with an official who was one of the premiership elect officials who told me that he was paid £500 per game + expenses in addition to his £50,000 annual retainer payment from the FA. I happen to know that he is now employed full time as the CEO of an English County FA and presumably is therefore no longer on the select list. However, having a job with the FA clearly helps him to continue refereeing on the FL circuit, which he does.

The meagre £20 match fee + 30p per mile expenses which I am paid presumably makes me professional also!

Woy saying what a good team we showed ourselves to be tonight ?
WTF ! Did he really just watch that ****e ?
I really fear for English football, if this squad is the best England can offer up against the world then we might aswell call it a day.

I really hope England will look for a new manager, I was never thrilled when Roy was appointed.

I suspect he's got the job until the end of our euros campaign, whether that comes after a failure to qualify or in the finals. I don't think the manager is the issue, our players just aren't good enough.

On Suarez, words fail me. If an 8 game ban isn't sufficient, what is? Does anyone know if FIFA can issue bans that effect domestic leagues? Or is he likely to be unable to play international football for a while?

I bet he'll be regretting his comments after the England game too.

I just want the Manager to be a little bit more braver in his team selection and not be afraid to drop the big name players when they are playing poor. I'm not sure he's the best man to start bringing in the younger players too and someone who can motivate and put in some passion in the team, I just can't see Roy doing that.

As for Suarez, how many warnings must he have before they throw the book at him hard?

You advocated playing Lallana instead of Rooney earlier today, how did that go? I'd forgotten he was playing until he got booked

I didn't say that, first time I've posted on here for a while I think. I would have liked to see Barkley, Shaw and Sterling play more in this tournament, Lallana didn't really impress me that much tbh. I know Rooney scored a goal and set one up, but once again he didn't have another good tournament.

It makes no difference who plays, Lallana, Sterling, Sturridge, Barkley, Shaw.

Just history repeating itself, they cannot think, they do not move and worst of all they cannot pass a football when needed.

Physical traits again are the dominant force in most of these new players. Because when you come up against the best its the collective skill sets that come through, not how fast individuals can run.

If football was all about kick and rush then England would have won more World Cups than anyone else!

England don't play (well not 1980's long) long. They just cannot play short when the requirement is there.

Trouble with English players has always been space, they need too much of it to function properly.
